Hamas’s barbarism was on full display last Saturday. On Shabbat and the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah, the fanatics of Hamas put on a full display of their evil and lack of any humanity: Jews in Israel, Americans and other nationalities were slaughtered in the streets and in their homes, babies and the elderly were kidnapped, and women and girls were raped and taken as hostages to Gaza. The death toll of innocent Jews was the highest in a single day since the Holocaust. And Hamas gleefully tells the world that it will use social media to broadcast the torture and killing of its hostages to traumatize further their loved ones and to try to prevent the world from ending their vile and inhuman actions.
And we pretend we are surprised. The Hamas charter states plainly that “Israel will exist, and will continue to exist, until Islam abolishes it....” It further states, “The hour of judgment shall not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them, so that the Jews hide behind trees and stones, and each tree and stone will say: ‘Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him,’ except for the Gharqad tree, for it is the tree of the Jews.”
The rallying cry of Hamas and far too many Americans is “From the River to the Sea.” They do not want a two state solution. They do not want to live in peace with Jews. They want to kill Jews. They want to cleanse Jews from all of Israel. This is not anti-Zionism; this is antisemitism in its most brazen and ugly form. It is this ideology, it is this lack of even basic humanity and not any action by Israel, that led to Saturday’s massacre. There is no moral equivalence here. There are only innocent civilians killed, wounded maimed and kidnapped for merely being Jewish.
My teenage daughter said last night that we must bear witness to these atrocities and this evil and we must not turn away from it. We must end it. And MSNBC should stop accommodating this evil and pretending that this is not antisemitism on steroids. MSNBC should stop blaming Israel and report all of the ugly facts. MSNBC should stop being complicit and bear witness to this evil.
