Does anyone know why the comments section was turned off on Yascha Mounk's "The World's Happiness Report is a Sham" column that TFP published on Monday? I had a comment I wanted to make but by the time I got to it on Monday afternoon, the comments were shut down and that's the first time I've seen TFP do that on an article. I guess, just for the record, my comments are that the Cantril Ladder question they asked was what was based on the "best POSSIBLE life for you" vs the "worst POSSIBLE life for you" - and if you live in Finland, a Socialist country, like much of Northern Europe, your possibilities are pretty limited, so their citizens resign themselves to their place on the ladder. They are not an aspirational or dynamic society like America. I was curious about this last year when the results were released and, like this year, it was topped by small, Socialist, cold-weather countries so I read the report and in it the Scandinavian respondents seemed somewhat bewildered by being considered "the happiest people in the world" and said that really, it's just that they're not very unhappy rather than being overtly happy. Also, my next door neighbor for the last 30 years was born and raised in Finland, however she doesn't really like to go back to Finland to see her family because the Finnish people are so dour and unfriendly compared to Americans (she's been an American citizen for about 45 years). And she's a loyal Democrat!

I definitely think more arson will help the Democrats demonstrate their true convictions and give people something to vote for. Hating Trump isn't much of a platform unless you REALLY hate Trump and are willing to do something about it. We want the BURN MORE TESLAS tour. Forget the oligarchs! People with car payments are much more vulnerable and easy to terrorize. If they get really scared they'll learn to HATE TRUMP too and we sweep the 2026 elections.

Last week, Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took Bernie’s “Fighting Oligarchy” tour out west, attracting impressive crowds, including 15,000 in Phoenix and 34,000 in Denver.

Ah, River, an investigative journalist you are not. Maybe when your source of information is not just the NYT you will improve.

Analysis of the crowds using technology to count the number of cell phones in the crowds indicated the attendance was similar to data offered by the Gaza Health Ministry inflating casualties. Crowds were large, but maybe half the number claimed.

It was also noticed that over 60% of the crowds were not local, but moved from one session to another across the country. I am guessing they were ‘paid’ to attend.

River, maybe you are best suited for a NYT job?

“If we hadn’t failed voters, Donald Trump, a fascist, would not be the United States president.”

Donald Trump is NOT a fascist in any way shape or form or form and this is why Democrats are loosing. They have no knowledge of people, history, economics or governance.

All Democrats have are empty platitudes and slogans. A party of hate fueled by contempt and resentment.

Reading Abundance now. The issue with these techno futuristic visions is that they ignore the reality that half the country doesn't want a techno utopia; and that the state hasn't had any meaningful industrial capacity itself since the days of the WPA.

River-I was about five lines into your newsletter when I had to stop reading and was compelled to pose this question: What in the hell kind of world are you living in that you think Chuck Schumer is a moderate?

If illegal I migrants are filing taxes please do not go after them. Continue to deport criminals that should keep you busy enough. And while that is happening please stream line the immigration process and create a clear path to citizenship.

I'm surprised at Alan Dershowitz' stance on Khalil. He incited protesters to riot and chants that not only threaten Jews but America in general. Free speech is not about yelling "fire" in a crowded theater.

To sum up the current situation politically... The Dems are the party of hate and death. Republicans are about love and life. America gets to choose what side of history they want to be on.

Harry Sisson was not just snapchatting, he was requesting nude photos and explicit videos.

Even in 2025, there is a line between text flirting and pervy requests ala Anthony Weiner.

And Weiner’s exwife and Hillary apologist is now a Soros. She has terrible taste in men.

The Democrats have to get this socialist/progressive stuff out of their system. Go ahead, run Bernie for President with AOC for VP. They'll get absolutely hammered of course but that's not necessarily a bad thing. They aren't going to move past this nonsense until they have to bleakly stare at complete defeat. So do it. I think it's the only way forward at this point.

“ As the moderate Schumer flounders,..” so now he’s considered a moderate because he realized the dangers to the Democratic Party if they had shut things down? He’s just a realist, but still on the Left.
