There has to be a reason why a synagogue was targeted. It can't just be a coincidence.

My 2 sisters in Alabama are attending church this morning. I told them about the Texas hostage situation- I’m sure they already know. Not that it needs to be said, but they can certainly imagine what it would be like to become hostages while attending a church service

Elementary, my dear Watson! So the FBI has concluded that a terrorist attack on a synagogue was not specifically targeting Jews. Surely Mr. Holmes is shaking his head; even poor Lestrade wouldn’t have been that dense.

Would it be overly cynical to conclude that our dauntless federal gendarmes are covering for the chagrin they feel over this incident, coming as it did on the heels of so much official blather about, ahem, domestic terrorism?

White adjacent extremists perhaps

I’ve been keenly aware of strong hatred of Jews by the media, and more, ever since AP ran a false photo of a “protester” facing a dozer.

I confess a lens curve that direction, so I suspect I know exactly what this person was, why he did it, and why it al psg isn’t a story.

And here comes the spin, "FBI Makes Claims Motive of Man Taking Hostages at Synagogue Was 'Not Specifically Related to Jewish Community.'

I just don’t get why the FBI would go along with white supremacy arguments against parents and cover for obvious Islamic theocrats at the exact same time.

Yeah, he thought they were Lutherans. Amazing

Bari, hope you will keep us all informed as to.how leaders in DC treat this in the days to come. Will this be ascribed to mental illness as we have heard so often in the past when the facts do not line up with the preferred media narrative?

"All of the hostages are safe. The hostage-taker is dead."

So, a very happy ending!

Expand full comment

“The hostage taker is dead.” This is a very happy ending? All people are made in Hashem’s image. Maybe just “all the hostages are safe” a very good ending. No need to rejoice in death.

Little doubt I am not the only one going to sleep tonight crying. I am a Jew. We are each all Jews.

I am listening to audio in segments as my patience wears thin and I have to pause it - from the comfort of my armchair. The people inside the synagogue- I imagine, are being held responsible for a convicted inmate, that they have zero relationship to or connection to or responsibly for. Wrong- that is not what America is about. The hostage taker says “the system” is bad. Compared to what and to where? I hope law enforcement has a safe opportunity (safe for all innocent ones) to intervene soon.

All the hostages are safe. The terrorist is dead. I don’t have all the details but this I know.

For those of you who are interested in media narratives and how media applies varying modes of coverage, you will see that the Washington Post's main homepage article is on this hostage situation, but totally closed to reader comments. And looks like it's the same thing for the NYTimes.

It's rare that articles occupying center stage on homepage are closed to reader comments.

As regards the Post, they have commenters that are attracted to stories about Jews like bees on honey and naturally they are all Jew haters.

There is a larger, refreshed article in the Post as of this afternoon. The comments I saw were largely not anti-semitic. But I really don't think it was the danger of anti-semitism that really drove the closing of comments in an earlier article.

My honest first thought, after saying a prayer for the hostages safety, is that I hope the suspect is a white nationalist. At least then it would be treated as a concern to take seriously for most news outlets. If not, it will be quickly written off. If it is mentioned, it would be almost to gaslight that these incidents are what is to be expected for Israel’s mere existence.

Curious. Every day Christians are slaughtered somewhere. Every week Jews are massacred somewhere. Genuinely curious. Are there places where Christians or Jews are regularly killing Muslims?

Expand full comment

No. Christians are being enslaved and murdered in multiple countries in the Middle East and Africa. There are actual slave markets in Mauritania. Nigerian Muslims are torturing and murdering Christians daily with the approval of the Fulani President of Nigeria. Muslims are mobbing and slaughtering Hindus in India. If there were Christians or Jews murdering for religious reasons, it would have 24/7/365 news coverage until our eyes were bleeding.

I’ve not seen this reported. Doubtful.

Christians & Jews do not do this.

I had to learn about this from an obscure independent journalism site at nearly 4 p.m. after it had been taking place for about 5 hours. I saw nothing on the news until 5. Where the hell was the supposed "news media?"

Obviously as it wasn’t drooling white supremacists carrying AR15s and the confederate flag dressed in their white hoods drinking moonshine - nothing to see here because it doesn’t fit the dnc media’s narrative.
