It would be interesting to read a follow-up by Ms. Subramanya of this story and any impact it has had - especially given her recent congressional testimony and a spotlight on her work.

I was incensed by what Trudeau did to the truckers. I was disgusted with our American governmental overreach as well, but Trudeau really exhibited his Castro-tendencies during this particular protest. Excellent article by Rupa and glad to have had the opportunity to read it.

I also MUST point out the gorgeous portrait work buy Dan Aponte. These images are stunning!

The future of Canadians is so uncertain right now. I am so worried.

Why can't big media give some honest coverage like this ? Seems all they are good for is amplifying Tru-doh and his cronies line that it is white supremacist and insurrectionists out there . And the sad part is i bet 70% or more of Canadians are buying the lie

"Mackenzie, 24, from Ottawa, works as a bartender at a popular downtown restaurant near Parliament. She had Covid, got better, and believes it’s her choice not to get the vaccine. She isn’t an anti-vaxxer." Isn't the refusal to get vaccinated the definition of an anti-vaxxer, or maybe we have different definitions. "If you pointed out to people like Peter—and I did—that almost every doctor in the country had been vaccinated, it didn’t matter. There was bodily autonomy." - When I hear this argument it makes me think of a person who has fallen overboard and is adrift in the ocean. When the captain sends a lifeboat to save them from drowning the person refuses to get into the lifeboat because they think that they will find their own way to save themselves from drowning - lost souls.

Rupa! Fabulous. And, thank God for Substack, people like Bari and most everybody reading this article. Somehow, someway, we need to shout truth harder, louder, clearer, prouder, constantly. Doing so will take courage and conviction. Let’s make sure that those who cherish freedom are heard, those who are unaware, become aware, and those who lie are revealed.

Let's fight for our freedom from traffic noise and exhaust fumes, which both are far more lethal than vaccines. Let's move as much cargo as possible from road to rail and speed up the development of driverless electric trucks. Let's go to Ottawa and shut it down until we get what we want! Who cares about democratic process. I want my freedom and I want it now!

Fully agree, and don't ever forget the WHO telling us to keep borders open because "racism is more dangerous" while the social media companies censored anybody contradicting them.

To look at these photos, and think that Trudeau is labelling these beautiful people as terrorists and racists while attempting to freeze their money accounts.

Who in their right mind can support that man?

You should talk to Stephen Marche who also interviewed these same truckers and has an opposite point of view. At its most basic, this was civilian disruption by majority Americans against Canadian mandates. This was not civil disobedience by Canadians.

Actual interviews and actual news photographs of real people, not politicians and their explainer "spox." This was a very refreshing change.

What is the point of this article? The author seems absolutely determined to put her own spin on the protest, yet I'm damned if I can figure out what it is. Just sloppy general animus towards authority, apparently. I just subscribed to this newsletter and hoped to find better than this.

Diesel fuels are so much more dangerous than vaccinations. Countless people die because of cancer and lung disease caused by fossil fuels whereas victims of vaccinations are few and far between. And yet, here we are, having a few thousand ignorant people protesting a vaccine mandate instead of fossil fuels while blowing their diesel exhaust in the air, exposing themselves, their kids they brought along and bystanders to this far greater health risk. These people do not make any sense at all.

I'm so happy to have an article written that doesn't excoriate the truckers or treat them like low lives. I'm vaccinated but that was my decision.

Swastikas on Canadian flags are an accusation against Trudeau and co. They're not an endorsement of Nazism. They're saying Canada has become fascist. They're not saying they want it to be. Isn't that obvious?

Time to remember the words of Tyler Durden

“Remember this. The people you're trying to step on, we're everyone you depend on. We're the people who do your laundry and cook your food and serve your dinner. We make your bed. We guard you while you're asleep. We drive the ambulances. We direct your call. We are cooks and taxi drivers and we know everything about you. We process your insurance claims and credit card charges. We control every part of your life.

They drive trucks too.
