An absolute banger of a first article with the FP. Very much looking forward to Mr. Ferguson's work here.

"Yet we also need to contemplate the possibility that we have done this to ourselves". And that's maybe the most terrifying part. The rot grows from the inside.

With each of these challenges, you can either solve around the margins - meaning throw money at it in most cases - or you can get to the heart of the problem. When it comes to the loss of our national character, we have to become a God-fearing country again. There's no returning to a healthy nation without this core piece of our identity.

Conservatives have been warning of this "rot" since the radical extremist Barack Obama got into power and fundamentally transformed the nation, as he promised he would.

I think the rot started with 1960s-era academics, and Obama is the generational product of that. Postmodernism and relativism did much to undermine the idea of American social cohesion.

The 1960s-era academics wanted to turn the U.S. into the USSA. It looks as if they have made a huge amount of progress toward that aim. The fact that the USSR collapsed was disappointing for them, but it wasn't a serious roadblock for their efforts. If anything, it made it easier to push Marxist ideologies with looking like pro-Soviets.
