every week I get a free email from Graydon Carter. called Air Mail. once in awhile I click on a "free article ( you only get one). so this week it was this.. I laughed myself silly as I read the screed among the ads for Prada bags, Ferraris vacations in the Maldives and Jimmy Choo shoes that interrupt your reading.. here it is.. if you cannot read it. try archive.ph and past it in.https://airmail.news/issues/2024-6-22/the-view-from-here. and here is the end of the article claiming what will happen if the "oligarchs" elect Trump.."So, what is driving American business tycoons into the MAGA fold? Here are five possible motives:

If Trump wins and I donated to Biden, I have a target on my back, but if Biden wins and I gave to Trump, nothing will happen.

Biden could raise my taxes, and I didn’t amass this huge fortune just to give it to the government. No matter how much money I have, I want more. (See: Molière’s The Miser.)

Trump will support Israel even more steadfastly than Biden—until it hurts him in the polls. Saying now that I support Trump for Israel’s sake makes me look like I care about something other than my own self-interest.

I don’t care about Europe, Ukraine, and Russia (some of my best friends are oligarchs) and, whatever, nobody can really contain China.

If the economy and/or democracy collapses, I can go to New Zealand and tend to my wineries and crypto accounts from the safety of my doomsday bunker.

In short, no matter what is best for their country and the planet, billionaires—then and now—will always find a way to leverage the worst."

Aside from the articles, one of my favorite things about TFP is the discourse in the comment section. I try to stay away from most comment sections "try to" because they seem to be full of Bots and general Wack Adoos. Many of the comments on TFP are well articulated points of view from a pretty good cross section of people. We can agree to disagree and still be civil and have a beer after a discussion.

Yes, but which beer. I'll buy, but if you want Bud Light, this I can't abide.

Wait! What? No Tulsi? No Vivek?

Frankly, I'd take any of them over Trump, Biden, or Kamala.

I want Vivek Ramaswamy!

TFP takes shots at both sides. In TGIF today Nellie took a big swipe at VP Harris. So. . . are readers angry that Peter took a shot at their side, when TFP exposes toadies, idolators, incompetents on both sides? Was the article snarky? Sure? Elitist? Maybe, maybe not. But we’re where we are because somehow, some way the best the country can do right now is provide us with a group of candidates for the top job that is not good.

“the deep state, which doesn’t actually exist.”

I also used to believe that the “deep state” was a cooky conspiracy theory, until Biden needed a cover for his son’s laptop and, just like that, 51 former and current top intelligence officials provided a letter calling the laptop Russian disinformation, thus allowing Biden to lie with a straight face in a presidential debate. Of course, all references to the laptop were also forbidden in the legacy media. Apparently, The Free Press “journalist” who wrote the above never heard of all that. Or maybe that was the “shallow state”? Last time I checked, diversity of ideas didn’t include stubborn ignorance of facts.

Like you, I did not think the “deep state” existed either, and I spent several years when I was younger reporting in Washington. But after seeing all the evidence since 2016, I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt.

you know my ex husband told me the mafia did not exist either....marone!!!!

The FP never mentions Vivek, its like he doesn't exist for some reason. How many journalistic careers Trump has built. Its so easy to be condescending, like stealing a church.

Is this the FP not being a jerk? Love satire, and there are so many ways to be humorous about Trump’s picks, curious, is that what you were going for? Maybe go back and find somebody to write for you?

Yuk. From Rupa Subramanya to ... this. From the sublime to giving ridiculous a bad name.

I have very high expectations and hopes for TFP and I really agree with one of the comments that TFP needs to seize the chance of this election season and up the game when it comes to election coverage. Back to Trump’s VP topic. As someone who used to think Trump should be put in jail for election denial and fully aware of the threat it posed to American democracy but now believe Biden must be voted out, Trump’s VP choice is important. I recommend you watching the joint stream of Richard Hanania and Michael Tracey(I despise him) on X last week to get some good insight, or maybe even invite Richard to write an article on this.

Peter, I want to like you dude. I really want too…. But you know, basically I agree with the top comments.

This year voters better pay some attention to the VP candidates because no matter who wins the election neither Biden nor Trump is likely to be able to serve a full 4 years.

So the real question should be, do we want to see a President Harris, or a President Fill In The Blank?

To some of us the choice is obvious.
