Hi everyone, here is a compact, clear summary of the important facts about US Foreign Aid that all Americans I believe should know in order to debunk the distraction and misinformation of the Republicans approach to this. This article is made to be shared widely. Please share it and use it where you think it can do the most good Thank you.
Time [26:00]; Trans people in the military. Two same-sex roommates when one is planning to transition. Should the non-transitioning roommate be allowed to change rooms? Because a bedroom is a socially intimate space, individuals should be allowed to change rooms. The non-transitioning roommate entered into the roommate contract with expectation of same-sex.
When drag-queen story-hour and pediatric-Trans became a part of K-12 school life, I predicted a wrecking-ball backlash that would unjustly affect non-activist Trans people who just want to live their lives.
But, the woke version of Trans has been so harmful, that is must be dismantled and reconstructed in a non-woke manner just like public health and education.
At time [09:50]; reporter describes history of DEI in the military and states that in 2020 a number of DEI policies were enacted by the military. But President Trump’s first term did not end until January 20, 2021. Was Trump informed about these changes at the time?
There are many ways to serve one's country. The military of course. Or, if you want to support the military but are non-deployable, take a civilian job at a logistics base, intel center, or personnel center. Or any number of honorable GS positions where one might impact the nation positively. There is no reason that non-deployable trans people need to be in the military. That fact does not cancel them or ignore their personhood.
And does that mean that women are non-deployable because they could get pregnant? Maybe we should look at that. In 1991 I volunteered for Desert Storm and fought with a Tank unit. After the fighting, I went to the log base and was astounded to see the lineup of women each morning at sick call to get their pregnancy tests. They knew that a positive test was a ticket out of the war zone. Who cared if it left the men in the unit, who obtw had fathered that child, to pick up the slack?
Amen. Catching up on some podcasts this weekend and 2 have featured Pete. I did not realize how much the elitism/progressivism/"even though we did it the last 4 years, now is the time for leadership" line of hypocricy/denials just drips in buckets from him. Think those articles and podcasts that include him may now be ones I skip.
I always enjoy listening to Honestly. I would love for you all to mix it up - have Buck Angel, Blaire White, Kara Dansky, Kathleen Stock - in other words different voices on the cultural/ gender side and also would like to hear more specific experts re: military, international, tax, etc.
Sorry to say but this is the single worst session of Honestly to date; the interview of the Mayor of NY is next worst. The two guests had superficial understanding of the topics discussed, and their responses were uninformed. The host came off as smug, humorless, and close minded. Normally Honestly is one of my favorite listens, but this did not meet that standard.
She didn't seem to know much about the military and the requirements of Soldiers (despite growing up in a military household (as she repeatedly says) or alternative, equally honorable, ways to serve one's country.
Why do we keep hearing from Brianna Wu? Her two talking points about the dangers of DEI and giving people like her “a path to normalcy” are getting really tired. She otherwise doesn’t seem particularly insightful or interesting.
I’m already tired of panelists on this format of Honestly defending administration decisions or concerns about cabinet appointees with “well the Biden administration was just as bad or worse “. That is not a reasoned argument or justification for bad actions even if you are right. Two things can be true at the same time. Biden was a failure and some Trump administration decisions are bad or wrong.
Listened to this on another platform that has no “comment” feature, but opened Substack and searched for this entry just so I could express my appreciation to the Free Press for producing AWESOME content like this. Reasoned, civil discussion among people who don’t agree on every point is like water in the desert these days. Thanks, FP. 🙏
2013, President Barack Obama’s FAA Administrator, Michael Herta, “made an historic commitment to transform the Federal Aviation Administration into a more diverse and inclusive workplace that reflects, understands, and relates to the diverse customers we serve,” after commissioning a paper that said relying on qualifications and test scores created “barriers…for racial/ethnic minorities.”
Seventy-three percent of white applicants passed the qualifications stage, compared to 47% of black applicants and 60% of Hispanic applicants. If the cutoff score for the test was 85, 78% of Asian applicants and 77% of white applicants passed, while only 38% of black applicants and 41% of Hispanic applicants did. But if the cutoff was lowered to 70, racial equity was in sight, with all Asian applicants passing, 99% of white applicants passing, and 90% of black applicants passing, the Obama consultant said.
In the end, the Obama administration opted to add a “Biographical Questionnaire” (BQ) to the application, which was used to give minorities extra points by asking questions about how many sports they played, or asking them to explain the cause of their failures, seemingly “to elicit stories of personal disadvantage.”
Pearson said the questionnaire actually punished people for being competent. It gave them 10 points for saying they’d been unemployed for the last three years, but just two points for saying they were trained pilots. Applicants were also rewarded if they said science was their worst subject in high school.
No, I signed up for responsible and thoughtful journalism. In free a society, people are allowed to do and say things that are wrong. Freedom to do something wrong does convert the wrong act into a good act. Is that controversial?
These are not facts. These are Ms Kennedy's opinions with a smattering of assertions of fact. And the statements are so venomous as to indicate significant bias. Back in the day (e.g., read All The President's Men by Woodward and Bernstein), one person's story was not suitable to be published unless the reporter could find independent verification. Can we verify that RFK Jr was responsible for the addictive behaviors of other family members? That his ownership of birds of prey reveal a character flaw (particularly ridiculous)? That he created chaos wherever he went (Lucifer is a piker!)?
Who is she to judge his character? I don't recall her denouncing her debauching father and uncle or decrying their lust for fame and power. I thought those were Kennedy family traits. She was selected as an Ambassador on her name, not any achievements of her own. Happy to be proven wrong if you can name any.
Her father and uncle do not currently pose a threat to the well being of the country. Many believe her cousin now does. That's why she has chosen to speak out. And as for her achievements, I suppose being an attorney, writer, and editor who has served on the boards of numerous non-profit organizations may count for very little in your book, but for the rest of us, her contributions to our society matter.

Really liked listening to this one. Peters still suffers from inability to think in any way but a progressive way.

Really great episode. Brianna Wu is so smart and thoughtful and I’m grateful I get to hear her takes on this each week.

Agreed! It’s so obviously a way of distracting, deflecting and sucking up time from what matters…now.

Excellent and scary information that everyone needs to know.
If she eats chicken and trap mice she has no business criticising him feeding them to hawks
It is irresponsible to repeat and amplify the poisonous and unsupported character assassination from Caroline Kennedy. Why is her opinion newsworthy?
Freedom of speech +
Freedom of the Press.
That’s what you signed up for. No?

Legit? She has intimate knowledge of his character and behavior. Dear god, man- the FP is about reporting the facts.

It's pretty easy to serve on the boards of no-profits when your name is Kennedy.
"Threat to the well-being of the country"... isn't that a little overblown?
