Let me explain something to Suzy Weiss, from an older woman to a younger one. Admittedly, I did not watch The Golden Bachelor. (I have not watched the Bachelor franchise since the wedding of Trista and Ryan Sutter over 20 years ago; the concept wore thin for me long before most of the rest of the world, apparently.) But it was impossible not to be aware of the show with all the media coverage. So all I can offer is my speculation on what went awry. This golden bachelor looked like a very handsome older guy, which is why, presumably, he was selected. I don't know the age of his bride. I assume she was an older woman, although likely a little younger than him.
It's less likely that they broke up for the reasons Suzy claims, than that Mr. Golden No-Longer-a-Bachelor had caught himself a younger woman through his newfound celebrity. There is nothing new, radical or surprising about that, contrary to what she says. In fact that's far more typical than the rocking chair cliche she envisions. I saw something awhile back that indicated the newly married couple hadn't even been seen together since the TV wedding, which makes it appear the marriage was done strictly for the show. Maybe there was some kind of financial incentive from the network with an understanding that the marriage would be dissolved soon after.
NPR/PBS represented that idea that they want to “help” humanity. The soft tone voices echoing pleasantries into our ears until about ten years ago when Juvenal’s satirical writings really began to reflect our society today – “bread and circuses” “who will guard the guards?”
C.S. Lewis nailed it when he said, “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.” Klaus Schwab/WEF is the perfect example of this!
We the People are the Heirs of the American Experiment and We are Squandering Our American Inheritance!
Apparently, speaking truth to power gets you suspended from NPR as opposed to walking into the bathroom, taking a look in the mirror and seeing how you might do better as a major news organization. Maybe NPR’s leadership was unsure of which bathroom to walk into.
I was cajoled into watching the Golden Bachelor mid to late into the season by my 23 yo daughter, so I didn't know many of the ladies.
What Suzy is missing, because she's young and single, is that once you become a widow and your children are all you have, you want to remain close to them. I think they fell in love but never worked out the emotions in the enormous detail of where to settle down. I said to my daughter, she'll never leave her grandchildren.
After so many seasons of this franchise, one only needs to pop into the last 5 episodes...or none at all.
Maher's post about her alleged privilege & staying to change things is a joke, but a joke she intended to firmly announce her leftist hyperconformity. It's not funny.
Credit where credit’s due: this post was my favorite by Mr Wiseman and makes me rethink my “Texas Hitchens” harshing on him the last few weeks. Still not a fan of the redundant Top Ten List (though everyone here should read #4) and I can’t say I know much about Mozilla (though opponents of same sex marriage generally are motivated by intolerance or religious fundamentalism) and while I have just entered the Golden Bachelor demographic, the image of “young bucks in bikinis” somehow seems oxymoronic (though I note Mr Wiseman didn’t write it). Wish I’d been in Dallas but other than the Cowboys, almost everyone born in South Texas hates it: too pretentious, too Eastern, too cliche Texas. Consider San Antonio for a future immigration debate: the largest city closest to the epicenter of the border crisis. Remember the Alamo! 🤠
How I remember the years of listening to NPR in my car and all the appointments I was late for because I couldn’t miss the fascinating discussions on art, history, science, human interest, music, etc. Countless hours stuck in the garage, transfixed by elevating discourse, my family asking why I wasn’t coming in. I would seek out the white asparagus painting of Manet, an artist I had never heard of, or visit Petra because of such engrossing discussions. Then, inconceivably, this station turned on NYC and its ultra Leftist bent became unbearable. Brian Lehrer’s voice, once a silky escape, became a viaduct to insane lunacy. Even All Things Considered soured with its constant political debasements. Click and Clack remained the only jewel. My once proud financial support was no longer possible. Little old ladies who worked their “legacy”bias, phony altruism ruining that station and exhausting my tolerance for their BS.
Your paper comes the closest to the intellectual information I crave. No Ivy Leaguer, I so appreciate your work and enjoy the points of view who all who participate- even those I might not agree with.
I have a question. Maybe others have asked and I missed it. Sorry if it's been answered. Are homicides actually going down or are more and more cities choosing not to report crime because of "racism" and bias? What happens when someone kills someone and it isn't classified as murder? There are too many victims of assault and shootings who never get their day in court.
A few weeks ago, NPR welcomed a new CEO, Katherine Maher, who’s been a leader in tech. She doesn’t have a news background, which could be an asset given where things stand. I’ll be rooting for her. It’s a tough job. Her first rule could be simple enough: don’t tell people how to think. It could even be the new North Star.
NPR is nothing more than another arm of the propaganda machine belonging to the Marxian left...I wonder...when they finally get their wish and the leftist troglodytes take control of the west how happy will they be when they are commanded what they can and cannot report under threat of a trip to the gulag or the firing squad wall or worse (yes, oh yes, there is worse...much worse)...an interesting thought experiment that most of them are incapable of imagining...so..let's hope it never happens...g.
I’m being reminded (again!) not to judge a book by its cover… gloves up for Moicano!
In the least surprising news of the day, CNN just platformed a Hamas supporter.
Excellent Matt Taibbi on NPRs Maher

Regarding "A fighter and a scholar", all I can write is...holy crap!
Sen. John Fetterman hasn't split with the Pervert-in-Chief; he has always supported Israel.
Maher's post about her alleged privilege & staying to change things is a joke, but a joke she intended to firmly announce her leftist hyperconformity. It's not funny.
Really? It read to me like she was 100 percent serious.
You're right, Kip.

Serious question, what does "white mobility privilege" mean?
I’m still trying to figure out what “cis” means!

From the original NPR article:

Well, that didn't last long...
