The baton passing was abominable, my high school coach taught us better handoffs. Not sure what was going on with the relays at the Olympics.

It's easy for me to disagree with Douthat - Did he question whether Trump should have still been president after he suggested ingesting bleach? I hope so!, and Turley - the level of misinformation coming from the right has never been higher and can be considered overwhelming. But hey, I finally found common ground with Eli Lake - our national anthem does indeed suck.

Trump .. Bleach

How old are you? Ask either your mom or dad to search for the speech and get them to read it back to you slowly.

This is the real Henry Kissinger when in 1945, he saw the Nazi death camps for the first time as a 20-year old U.S Army sergeant:

THE ETERNAL JEW.

The concentration camp of Ahlem was built on a hillside overlooking Hannover. Barbed wire surrounded it. And as our jeep travelled down the street skeletons in striped suits lined the road. There was a tunnel in the side of the hill where the inmates worked 20 hours a day in semi-darkness. I stopped the jeep. Cloth seemed to fall from the bodies, the head was held up by a stick that once might have been a throat. Poles hang from the sides where arms should be, poles are the legs. “What’s your name?” And the man’s eyes cloud and he takes off his hat in anticipation of a blow. “Folek . . . Folek Sama.” “Don’t take off your hat, you are free now.”......

Now we're holding up Bill Barr as an exemplary commentator on the law? That is hilarious! Now, is he in general brilliant, or only on the issues, like this one, that align with TFP's editorial stance?

Well said. Pls look down in the thread for my similar comment and the responses it drew.

in its usual one sided editorializing, TBF never mentions that the Russian led IBA was stripped of its status as amateur boxing’s governing body in 2019 and that this body who disqualified these two boxers in 2003 have refused to officially release these tests. I have no idea if they should have been qualified to box in the Olympics. But despite their her strongly worded statement backing the Russians backed organization, she has no proof for her allegations. And given the the TPF’s policy of taking a strong position on an issue, it feels no reason to provide a complete picture.

I wonder why the boxers didn't appeal the IBA's decision to ban them based on the test results.

The Algerian fighter appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sports but could not afford the legal costs. She has had 56 fights with 47 wins. She had never been disqualified before. The Russian backed IBA disqualified her after she beat an undefeated Russian boxer. After the disqualification the Russians record went back to undefeated. The ruling inn 2023 was made only by the General Secretary and CEO of the IBA. Following that ruling the IBA board recommended a written procedure which would be followed and be written into the Regulations. In short, the Board appears to understand governance and procedures at the IBA were lacking which further justifies it being stripped of its status as amateur boxing’s governing body in 2019.

Lin Tu Ting was also disqualified by the IBA at the same tournament. She has a record of 24 wins, 9 losses (33 fights) and was only disqualified by IBA in 2023. She was tested when arriving back in Taiwan and that confirmed her eligibility and then competed at the Hangzhou Asian Games where here eligibility was once again confirmed.

While it appears to me that these women did qualify as woman boxers, I am not certain of it. What I am certain of is that TBF writers take a position on an issue and are either too lazy to do the work to write an objective piece, or worse, refuse to inform its readers of any evidence that contradicts their viewpoint.

As well as leading Donald Trump by three points in three battleground states in the latest New York Times/Siena poll, Kamala Harris is now more trusted than the former president on the economy. According to a survey for the Financial Times, 42 percent of voters trust Harris more than Trump to handle the economy, a seven-point increase on Joe Biden’s number last month. (Financial Times)

*****************************************************

I can't read the NY Times story so I am curious how/why Harris is leading Trump on trust over the economy. Is this real or more of the fake news BS?

The Financial Times is a joke...much like Business Insider. Rags that have nothing but pathetic Dem loving leftists who can't think their way through a paper bag. You absolutely cannot believe a poll from the Financial Times.

They're setting us up so when they cheat to steal the election, close down polling places in the dark of night to count harvested mail-in ballots they could claim "But Harris was ahead in the polls."

Don't be fooled.

The IOC flubs it royally with the XY "female" boxers and again by demanding Jordan Chiles return her individual bronze for floor. Chiles' coaches submitted a successful inquiry after Jordan's score was posted and it was obvious that the judges scored the routine's degree of difficulty too low. Chiles' corrected score moved her to third place. Unfortunately, an inquiry must be submitted within one minute and the inquiry arrived at the judges' table in one minute and four seconds. The Romanians complained and suggested awarding an additional bronze. Instead, the IOC stripped Chiles of her medal. The IOC fixed a wrong with a bigger wrong. Clowns.

The opening paragraph of this newsletter refers to itself as a ”roundup of the news we see fit to print.” This is clearly recognizable as a reference to the NY Times’ hoary slogan. Whether intended as an homage to, or a dig at, the former employer, and tormentor, of several members of the Free Press team (or perhaps a bit of both), it rings a discordant note. The NY Times might reform itself, or it might compost into irrelevance, but right now it’s a rather tarnished brand and it just seems unhelpful to use their slogan this way.

If the Free Press feels the need for a newsletter slogan, maybe run a contest for that (one that maybe doesn’t reference printing…)? The NY Times ran such a contest some years back, but couldn’t find a suitable replacement slogan. Surely the readers of the Free Press would welcome the challenge and outdo the NY Times’s readers.

Before anyone votes for Harris would you please ask her why she wants to ban assault weapons but with Biden, left 360,000 of them in the hands of the Taliban when they cut & ran from Afghanistan?

Why don`t the women athletes who compete against biological males just refuse to compete in a competition . It is kind of silly to say after you lose it was unfair , just don`t compete to begin with .Biological males can win gold but there will be no bronze or silver, or are they waiting for the patriarchy to solve this for them .

If the UK can impose its censorship regime on the rest of the world, could we flip the script and impose the 1A on the UK?

If the EU + UK becomes too much of a PITA, I could see lots of American companies pulling out altogether. It won't be a good thing, but they created the conditions.

Iran has a “moderate” president, and now a proposed “pragmatist” foreign minister (Reuters) who helped negotiated the defunct Iran Nuke Deal. I just can’t help but delude myself into believing that peace is about to break out all over the place.

Eli Lake: "When it comes to national anthems, I can’t help being jealous of the French, with their defiant hymn, “'La Marseillaise.'”

Let's all sing along:

"Grab your weapons, citizens!

Form your battalions!

Let us march! Let us march!

May impure blood

Water our fields!"

The positions of Harris and Walz on First Amendment protections are particularly painful to read. None of us wants the anger and waste of debating what has been so clearly settled after previous fights. Strange to watch the Feds play Michelle Carter while the mainstream press plays Conrad Roy.
