I'm glad Trump is dismantling Affirmative Action. Here is how to test if someone really believes that Affirmative Action is a sound principle:
(1) Point out that raising children is universally considered important and legitimate work and that mothers who do so are not "deadbeats" on society. They cannot argue with that without sounding misogynistic.
(2) Point out that there is a very well documented history of discrimination against men in this line of work, because "maternal preference" was literally embodied in family law.
(3) Point out that this historical pattern continues today. Statistics on the current disparity between sole custody for mothers and fathers is well documented.
Now, ask them if they support Affirmative Action to increase the number of single fathers — like targets for judges to award custody to fathers half the time and giving custody to fathers even when they are less qualified than the competitor parent. Ask them if they would mandate recruitment efforts for fathers, if not enough "apply" for custody. Ask them if they support training programs for fathers, if they feel fathers are less qualified.
If they support Affirmative Action in family courts, then they believe that Affirmative Action is a valid principle. If they do not, then they really support Affirmative Action only because they they are sexist and hate men and because they are racist and hate whites.
