Wait till they find out that this was not an accident....

The US Senate chaplain offered up a prayer on his demise.....reminds me of the condolences sent by Ireland to nazi Germany upon the news of the dictator's death. too sick to further comment on.

Nah, it won’t. Way too optimistic. Strong men and regimes are bang in trend right now. You need more than an accidental death to make something happen

It’s all unrealistic, wishful thinking. The thugs will continue to reign in Iran & the Biden/Obuma administration will continue to honor them, negotiate with them & ignore the dangers of appeasement. In the annals of American history there have been few Presidential administrations to equal the baffling, incompetence of the Biden administration.

Would that the CIA could be able to create a coup today! (Not disagreeing with your former comment.) I was in the CIA late 60s.

"...the clerical regime [will now be required] to engage again in a potentially risky electoral fraud—pretending presidential choices exist when all has been arranged by the supreme leader and his minions."

Other than the insignificant difference of a clerical regime vs a secular regime, this seems unfortunately descriptive of one of the paths that America might be dragged down in the near future.

Why did the Obama and now Biden administration continue to bend over backwards to appease Iran. Seriously, our Senate chaplain offered up a prayer on the Senate floor? Tell that to the families whose loved ones have been tortured and killed under this regime. You can’t make this up!

Raisi is a historically unimportant figure, replaceable by another which looks much like him. The presidency in Iran is not an overly important position. The mullahs, the revolutionary guard and mostly, the supreme leader, run the place.

As much as it'd be wonderful to see the regime go down, this likely isn't the moment it'll happen. Turns out, the regime has been smart about who gets the guns and who doesn't.

Small correction: Mahsa Amini was wearing a headscarf when she was arrested. A small amount of her hair was visible poking out from underneath it. For this she was arrested.

When we had a functional CIA (1950s-80s), it would have been providing arms to the people and groups who would then have the power to overthrow the Mullahs, but without arms, protests in the street just lead to wholesale slaughter of the majority, just as in all totalitarian Countries. It is a lesson to ourselves to never give up the right to bear arms so that freedom can be enforced, by force of arms, if necessary.

The slaughter continues until the enforcers get tired of killing ordinary people, and turn on the regime. That's what happened in Russia in 1917.

How about sending Biden and Obama to the front lines?

Excellent analysis by Gerecht. That the Iranian klepto-theocracy has survived this long is a testimony to the ruthlessness of the "men of the cloth" who have led Iran since 1979. What's more puzzling is why Obama was so committed to rapprochement with this Stalinesque regime. Students of history know well that when free countries underarm and hope and wish and give concessions to maintain peace with ruthless regimes, war always follows. Given the feckless leadership of the U.S., the Biden Administration in particular, we are closer to a WW III than we have ever been. In the rear view mirror of the smoke and ruin that likely lays ahead, deterrence will look to have been a better course.

What comes next for Iran?

We can only hope "Chaos" and the Implosion of its society.

the implosion of its leadership -- the mullahs and revolutionary guard.

I suspect the society will flourish once they are gone.
