More excellent and, especially for me as a non-US resident, informative writing, but my favourite is about the "gay beer". The story's as tragic and aggravating as the wording is hilarious.

Sean Penn was there and surely told the Ukrainians how to win. So we have nothing to fear. Look what happened to El Chapo after he interviewed him. Death to those whom Sean Penn targets!

The differences in men and women goes far beyond just bigger body parts and bone density (although they are very good points. Especially the body size and body parts size because that is evident from conception. ie. Can't be changed with hormones) There's differences in the actual structure of the bones (that starts at birth and can't be changed with hormones...and hormones take years to level out anyway so that is a moot point of theirs) The joint surfaces and bone differences where they meet the muscle, different shapes and angles that give differneces in torque and rotation. Differences in strengths of ligaments and tendons.

Then there are differences in heart and lungs which give men huge advantages with oxygen intake. When a man is jogging at about 50% of his capacity, a woman will need to work at over 70% of her capacity to keep up with him.

Some more about the size difference specifics are limb length differences(gives men longer strides) and height differences. Globally, men are generally about 4 1/2 in. taller..I believe it is 6 in. In the US.

When we are talking about ppl who are around 30 and up, women are then losing estrogen which begins bone loss while a T person (mtf) will still be taking estrogen and will then have that advantage. And women are younger than men when bone loss begins and it happens at a faster rate.

The differences really go on and on. The inclusion of men in women sports is ridiculous.

Hi Nellie! TGIS (a little late to the game, but better late than never)! As always, grateful for your weekly re-cap.

The one thing I'd love for you to follow-up on (maybe next week, or perhaps even in a feature story) is your point that it is "backward and unhelpful" for cultural organizations, institutions, Hollywood studios and universities to ban all things Russian.

This stood out to me because in a recent interview in Politico, Fiona Hill stated: "Sanctions are not going to be enough. You need to have a major international response, where governments decide on their own accord that they can’t do business with Russia for a period of time until this is resolved . . . Ordinary companies should make a decision. This is the epitome of “ESG” that companies are saying is their priority right now — upholding standards of good Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance. Just like people didn’t want their money invested in South Africa during apartheid, do you really want to have your money invested in Russia during Russia’s brutal invasion and subjugation and carving up of Ukraine?"

It seems like Ms. Hill is saying that nothing is too small to be overlooked. I tend to agree with her assessment. If you haven't read the interview, I highly recommend it (https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2022/02/28/world-war-iii-already-there-00012340).

P.S. Do you think the Common Sense Crew might be able to score a Fiona Hill interview?? I think I speak for most subscribers when I say that would be terrific!

Kind of amazed that Ms. Bowles took down my comment on her own approval of the mysandric and racist comments of Chicago's mayor made to employees on the City's staff and about "Italians". Truth apparently hurts, Nellie?

To be clear I have faith so perhaps I am not objective. But I think your jailed for making a joke hypo is flawed. We started out talking about morality versus power no? I see no moral benefit to joking about Stalin so would not consider not doing so submission. But I also think that you are equating police power with morality. I think the opposite. I do not think the two are mutually exclusive and a just world would see the intersection of both. But until then consider Nelson Mandela. He was jailed for years. That did not give the power brokers who jailed him.mo4al superiority. Rather the opposite. It created a martyr who oversaw the downfall of the arresting power brokers.

I no longer care or give the slightest microfuck about the concerns of people elsewhere. As long as I have to wear a muzzle, NOTHING else matters. After ALL the mandates are gone, and after ALL the responsible demons (presidents, governors, mayors, public health officials, MDs) are tortured for two years and executed painfully, then I might consider starting to care about something beyond raw fucking survival.

I have the utmost respect for the Ukrainian civilians taking up arms. You don't actually believe in freedom or value it unless you're willing to die for it.

On the issue of transgender mental health I have an army of parents breaking down my door to have me to be the one who does psychotherapy with there gender confused child. Why? because I don't push ideology on anyone. I encourage caution and careful contemplation when considering permanent life-altering drugs and medical procedures. Apparently, the word has gotten out that i'm not insane.

Good for you for not caving to ideology that harms children for money, clout, virtue points, or just so you don't get "canceled." 👏🏻 Hopefully that is a trend that grows.

Here’s the bottom line: when we-the civilized world-allow war crimes to go unchecked, they continue. We should have bombed all of the Russian troops once they started to move in. Putin would understand that action.

"What is backward and unhelpful, however, is the cascade of cultural organizations, institutions, Hollywood studios and universities banning all things Russian. "

I disagree. Hollywood, etc. won't stop Putin, but it is a positive step.

"Ask yourself why Hollywood is so eager to cancel movie openings in Russia, but happily edits blockbusters to suit Chinese audiences."

So sad, so true.

"The logic on the left is that America and Europe taunted Russia with Western expansionism, leaving Russia with little choice but to invade. (Chomsky said as much back in 2015.)"

It wasn't just Chomsky. Kissinger, Kennan, and Mearsheimer all said the same thing. Some accounts suggest that Bush (41) and Baker promised Gorbachev that NATO would not expand.

I disagree with Nellie’s approach to Russia sanctions. I think the world is showing an instinctive revulsion to the Putinkrieg. By isolating Russia in every possible way, down to things like cats and sports events, it sends a message to all Russians that evades government censorship. Nobody wants to be part of a pariah state. The pressure on Putin is building. If the West holds firm with sanctions, his days may well be numbered. It also sends a message to China. It’s a good strategy.

Really? They worked in South Africa. The U.S. has sanctioned Cuba, but the people there hate their government. If you can divide Russia’s billionaires from Putin, it’s game over. As for Russia sanctions, let’s face it - we don’t buy stuff from Russia and they don’t buy basic goods (since you mentioned “oppressed” people) from us. The sanctions I mentioned have no parallel in “Iraq, Syria, Libya and Afghanistan”. For Russians, the sanctions are embarrassing, and they don’t like being seen as a pariah. If Europeans and Americans are “arrogant, unhinged and incompetent “ for supporting Ukrainians who are being murdered in their own homes, exactly what do you propose?

I think your energy import figure is high, but regardless we can replace it overnight given a more productive domestic energy policy. As for fertilizer, most of our imports

actually come from Canada and Kazakhstan. Your comments about those other countries are off-topic. So your advice is to “restrain our dog Zelensky”. Talk about unhinged. Zelensky is Ukraine’s “dog”, and they rightfully love him. And what is a “realistic” peace deal when your country is invaded? Sorry Amy, but your anger is mostly aimed at the U.S., and your out of your depth on this subject.

This is the second time I have read in the media that there are some right wing conservatives (never named) that have sympathy for Putin. I don't believe that is accurate, but if it is, they are not living in the same reality as the rest of us. And I might add, I have not even finished reading today's edition yet!

Yes, I know that Tucker is pro-American. I am too, but I think - as is the case in many instances of diverging opinions - that there's a fundamental definitional difference between what I view as "pro-American" and what Tucker views as "pro-American."

No sane person functioning within post-nuclear war norms desires such a war under any circumstance, but Vladimir Putin's objective is to disrupt those norms.

this is called "binary framing", Sally.

"you are either with us or you are a traitor."

This is the corporate propaganda media shutting down different perspectives in it's goal of getting us all to support a war so as to deflect from serious domestic issues.

they are using war to hide their policy failures. And they will not tolerate dissent.
