Goodbye and goodnight to: Red Lobster, Ebrahim Raisi, WaPo’s web traffic, gun control, fake meat, and DEI. Plus, vials of blood at Trump HQ, a catfight in Congress, and more.
What about the fact that poor folks and minorities have a right to self-defense, and that gun control (as enforced against simple gun owners) has historically targeted and abrogated the rights of the poor and minorities? Your snark is very cute and all, but you come across as utterly disdainful of any notion that actual criminals can be prosecuted without gun possession laws, and that meanwhile innocent poor folks of all descriptions run afoul of these laws routinely. In fact, I know several individuals who've caught a gun charge, and not a one of them was a gang-banger. They were all, to a man, simply ignorant and arguably ill-advised.
But let's look the gift horse of progressive prosecutors getting it right, for once, and for the right reasons, in the mouth because we're emotionally enamored of the concept of "reasonable gun control", am I right?
Honestly, it's not a good look. It comes across as very ivory tower, as does frankly your whole attitude towards law enforcement. While "defund the police" was always idiotic, your utter disregard for the problems inherent in using the police to implement various utopian visions is apparent week after week. It must be very nice to sit on high in your position of endless privilege and fantasize about all the problems mommy government can solve, without any concern for the ruined lives left in the wake.
Hey genius, what gun control efforts have ever targeted ranchers, MAGA or otherwise? Ranchers I know don’t typically go for AR-15s and high-volume banana clips.
Jesus F Christ, Nellie, you’re as astute on the economy as Paul Krugman. All those whiners in flyover country need to have bigger 401(k)s, so they will understand how well Biden is doing!
I can’t BELIEVE we hadn’t thought of that already. Wait, is that really your own opinion, or did you hear it from a friend at the farmer’s market?
"for the love of god, Hilz, just tip Biden over one day, and lock the doors of the Oval behind you"
In the 6th January school of constitutional law, that sentence is a clear attack towards the democracy and an obvious call to overturn the constitution.
Oh, you're talking about a Democrat politician ? Ah, ok, nevermind...
In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the justice impacted individuals. These are their stories.
Ok it’s Sunday which is the best day to read TGIF . As by then the comment section is on fire .
It’s Awesome I get to groan out loud at Nellie’s love of Hilz . Thankfully that ship has sailed .The Titanic and her campaign had a lot in common . Those pesky deplorable icebergs . Then move on to the comments which I had learnt not to drink coffee while reading . Have now solved problem with plastic wrap on my key board . So now I get to read laugh drink and spit coffee at my hearts content .
There are some amazingly funny smart people all over the country . Another thing Hilary apparently didn’t know sorry I digress.
Anyway without TGIF there would not be the comments so thanks Nellie .
Everyone else have a nice Memorial Weekend and thanks for the laughs .
Sending you strength to endure the book launch cycle, Nellie Bowles. I, for one, am looking forward to reading your book, and I guess that bump in sales means you can trust readers to be able to parse some of these more mean-spirited reviews and still be intrigued enough to buy your book! Congratulations!
Please, Nellie Bowles: Don't be a journalist I enjoy but can't trust. Your item on the Illinois language bill lacks necessary context and thus substantially misrepresents the bill. From the AP:
"The bill, HB 4409, would not relabel all people who commit crimes as justice-impacted individuals — just those in the state’s Adult Redeploy Illinois program. Adult Redeploy Illinois is intended to reduce incarceration, in part, by placing individuals with any probation-eligible offense in community corrections programs rather than in prison."
The bill is still ridiculous, but would it apply to rapists and murderers, as you say? Seems not, unless those offenses are somehow probation-eligible and those offenders land in this specific program.
In service to journalistic integrity, I hope The Free Press will publish a correction and be diligent in future about outrage-fanning at the expense of responsible reporting. I hope I'm not being naive in thinking TFP journalists take accuracy and correction of error seriously.
You adore Mayor Adams? The guy is a moron. He parties until early morning daily and only wants to rub elbows with the rich and famous. This is a guy who was in the NYPD and he has no idea how to clean up the city. Granted his predecessor was most likely the worst mayor the city has ever had so when he got elected it should have been simple to show improvement but somehow he has the city in the same rut. That comment made me rethink who I’m sending my money to and I’ll be leaving this site. I’m most likely not your targeted reader anyways.
I also understood it as tongue-in-cheek based on Nellie's overall writing style in TGIF. And even if not, she might still adore him even if he is a (nearly) complete nincompoop. Sometimes that happens.
I enjoy the comments section as well as tgif , but feel tgif is mostly satire. What I don’t understand is the majority of comments are anti Bowles and free press in general and yet you continue to indulge in it.

In order to support the degrowth movement, I wonder if Bill Gates will live in a solar powered 800 sq ft. hut and eat fake meat.
Why does AOC act like she’s Jenny from the block. “Oh girl, oh baby girl, don’t even play.” She’s such a fraud.

Nellie, love your shtick.

Even though you're "bad", I bought your book! Also, heard you on Dennis Prager's show. For someone so bad, you were awfully nice!

Make sure to let us all know when you see that correction.

Said tongue-in-cheek….if you can’t recognize the nuance you probably should leave.
I understand nuance sweetly. Tell me where that is here? I’m guessing Douglas Murray isn’t why you’re here?

Wow, that vacation drove you hard to the right.. what happened to the center?
