Whenever Coleman Hughes writes or speaks I can’t wait to read or listen. I know I will get well reasoned, well researched and intelligent analysis. Conclusions based on facts not ideology. Bravo and continue the good work. Thank you Free Press for publishing his work.

I called Trump a narcissistic con-man in the Washington Post comment pages, and the comment stayed posted. I read one of their most libtard columnist's praising of Coates' latest drivel, and I commented that Coates was a grifter who profits off of stoking racist flames, and suprise, it was deleted. I try to refer people to this piece in TFP whenever Coates latest comedy is mentioned.

Zionism has never really itself been a problem, and that is the deepest absurdity of the this particular narcissist in someone else's a keffiyeh. The problem is that Islamic Jihad is bald-faced death worship; it is an atavistic fear of life itself. Extreme cowardice, Islamic Jihad is a disease that destroys all people it touches by screaming death is the only cure for the pain of real life. Death is the ultimate good. Die and kill and escape, that is the cowering message of Jihadists one and all. And Coates, like most raised in the Judaeo-Christian moral framework of America and Europe, cannot imagine Islamic Jihad is really a depraved cult that worships death, the death of their own and the death of Jews especially. Coates is truly privileged. He like most Westerners was born into a culture of courage that embraces life. Life is a struggle; life IS the struggle. Love is the engine of life. God is Love. But for our thoughtless little Coates, that is too much, so he like most who lack the imagination to imagine real life negating evil simply blames the Jews: the least creative most cliche move in all of history. Blame the Jews. Coates is a child, and he thinks like a child, with the mind of a child, and most of all, with the blind narcissistic bluster of a child. L'chiam Coates, l'chaim!

Would that this be published in the NYTimes Book Review.

Ta-Nehisi Coates is a gifted writer. He is amazing with words.

But he has not interest in challenging his world-view. He does not even try to hide his biases, instead he celebrates them. He goes into a project with a preconceived story and only looks to support that story. Any evidence to the contrary is ignored.

Coates almost single-handedly caused me to stop subscribing to The Atlantic, which used to be a very fine literary magazine that I subscribed to for over 10 years.

OMG, that is exactly the primary reason why I ended my Atlantic subscription, too! They've lost their intelligent center, center-left point of view, and gone full on Lib crazy over the last few years.

Frighteningly, Coleman observes that this is the only book on the Israel-Palestinian situation that many, especially progressives, especially youths, will read. He deserves our gratitude for taking apart this one-sided fantasy.

Meanwhile, NYC will heat up with protests this weekend, and on Oct 7, because of ill-informed anti-Semites, like Ta-Nehisi Coates.

I’m so absolutely disgusted by Coates’ work that I have no words. Thank goodness for Coleman who can so clearly (and with facts) elucidate how I, and thank goodness many others, feel.

what about the fact that "everyone was poor" 500 years ago.

Thank you, Coleman, for your superb research, clarity, and vision as you planted your pole In the trash bin of Coates and vaulted your readers to a magnificent overview of so much that is currently plaguing society.

In a perfect world, it would be Mr. Hughes who would be winning prestigious awards and grants for his prose and not Mr. Coates. Another wonderful article. I have enjoyed your work since you wrote for Quillette.

Can someone point me towards more information about how "everyone was poor" in 1524?

Can you name anyone alive in 1524 who had access to the kind of resources an average American has today?

Sadly, nothing new here. The cultural icons of the Progressive Left are, almost to the last one, raving anti semites who lionize radical islam and hate Jews.

This is why I call what these people do 'social just-us'. What they advocate cure society's woes are for others, not themselves. Coates and his ilk don't believe they need to 'do the work' themselves to 'decolonize their brains'. If y'all haven't seen Am I Racist? yet, I highly recommend it!

Fantastic. I’ve read and admired much of TC’s work, but after seeing him on the talk show circuit talking about Israel, I was floored by his ignorance and performative moral angst. So glad someone had the courage to review his work with honestly and integrity.

Speaking of imagination. Allow me to imagine I woke up and realized Coates and all his accolades were just a bad dream.
