Whatever your stance is on this article or AI, you might want to read Technopoly by Neil Postman. https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/132784/technopoly-by-neil-postman/ Though written more than three decades ago, it argues that for most of human history, humans have been tool users. Increasingly, we have allowed tools and technologies and those that profit from them to use us. In our technolopy, we accept without questioning changed word meanings and neologisms, like “AI” even as we continue to accept the untrammeled intrusion of technologies into essential human activities like socializing and education, despite evidence of the great harm they are causing. Americans are especially prone to the rule of technopoly because we are justifiably proud of past innovations that contributed to human flourishing, skeptical of regulation, and fearful of being called Luddites.
