The U.S. is one of the only - if not THE only - developed country that has rejected the research findings that caused the UK, Sweden, Norway, France, Finland, and other developed nations to reject 'gender-affirming care.' The U.S. is one of the only - if not THE only - developed country that has rejected the research findings that caused the UK, Sweden, Norway, France, Finland, and other developed nations to reject 'gender-affirming care.' I'm no expert, and I cannot begin to imagine what it is like to wake up every day believing you are in the wrong body, that you should have been born the opposite gender.
What I do know is that here in the U.S., we've changed our laws after finally recognizing that the brain is not fully developed until we are in our early 20's. That's why the U.S. does not allow a juvenile defendant to be sentenced to the death penalty, or to life without parole. Because we know that despite the heinous crimes that were committed, those defendants did not have the brain capacity of an adult.
Gender affirming care is not an LGBTQ+ issue, it's not an identity politics issue, it is a healthcare issue. Let's fund the research, dissect the findings, and apply the recommended practices based on the peer-reviewed evidence without regard for being politically correct.
