This piece undermines your own credibility, and thus is regrettable. Your view of F was negative. Then F took a position on a very important issue with which you agree. Now, regrets, volte-faces, and adverbs flow from you. Why must it be all one thing or the other? Are there not (many) other possible interpretations? Are people, and, yes, politicians, this simple? I'd suggest not.
