these people dont know the history or care about it they get a charge out of shouting in groups and being outraged. Its the fault of our universities, and BLM like organizations. What do Lgbt people know about the world?

I have never been more thankful for the FP. This kind of reporting is so vital.

I was wondering if Bari, or any commenters here could recommend a book or two that deals with the history of this conflict. A good history of the state of Israel or something of that nature would also be welcomed. I am curious for my own sake, but also I would like to recommend books for friends of mine who do not seemed to understand the roots of this conflict and take the 'Colonial' narrative at face value. Thank you!

Israel needs to clear Gaza. The enemy has declared war.

Well, we have seen the joyous “yay there are dead Jews” demonstrations.

I fully expect the same groups to start coming out shortly with the even more joyous “yay there are dead Palestinians” demonstrations after the gathering Israeli offensive continues and stacks them like cordwood, that is the whole point after all. Why do this if not for all the pictures of dead kids complete with the obligatory rending of garments.

I simply don’t see other people around the world so joyous at the death, mutilation, torture of others.

Whatever faults the Jews have they seem to have some decorum regarding that subject.

Ok, y’all...don’t jump on me for my ignorance, but I’m 42 and I’ve never understood anti-semitism. My kid asked me today why Jews seem to be repeatedly treated so badly, and I just don’t know. I know what some derogatory stereotypes are. I know how Hitler shaped national thinking against Jews (and I think I know why), but I’m still befuddled. I don’t intend to dredge up a fight or stir offense - I am heartbroken over what has happened in Israel and my heart can’t take a lot of conflict right now. I just want to understand - why have Jews been so maligned, historically?!

Pretty straightforward. The Jews killed Jesus, another Jew they considered to be a heretic.

And it just continued from there. They refused to bow for long so eventually the Romans destroyed the temple in 70AD (you can still see a jumble of broken rocks at the base of the east wall), and then when they rebelled again (138ad?) they had enough and exiled them

A Jewish friend once told me when I asked that very question that the hatred comes from Jews killing Christ. Not sure that’s true but that’s what he believed.

We are ruled by people who hate us and everything we stand for. What could go wrong?

The masks are off. They have the same hatred for all Western Civilization that they have for the Jews. The Jew hatred is just the tip of the iceberg.

That being the case, any news reports/opinions writing about the poor Palestinians is ignorant or obfuscating the truth for nefarious purposes i.e. government misinformation. Israel will beat down in this attack. And in my humble opinion, should need little if any help from the United States. We don’t need things to escalate any further. And make sure the hostages return to their families.🙏🏼

AP story via Yahoo news, which included a note from World Health Organization that pre-positioned medical supplies they provided had been destroyed by Israeli bombing.

Think that through for a moment. Why has WHO pre-positioned medical supplies in Gaza? What did they know? When did they know it? Why did they protect this information?

The crazy part is that we, the collective democratic West, have allowed what is in essence a fifth column to root itself in our country under the guise of multi-culturalism. Having shared borders, language, culture, heritage, and values all matter. We are discovering, hopefully not too late, that we have been infiltrated by a group of people who would subjugate us under Sharia law and who have no love or respect for liberal Western ideals. When the great educational institutions of our nation, such as Harvard and Stanford, remain silent in the face of these atrocities, you know that the cancer has metastasized in our country. Israel will persevere, of that I have no doubt. However, will we have the fortitude to do what is necessary to ensure our way of life doesn't fall to the barbarians?

Can you imagine similar protests in Times Square in the aftermath of 9/11???

For anyone who thinks the Jews are responsible for provoking this recent action you may want to read the Hamas Charter of 1988. It specifically states a primary objective is to destroy Israel and replace it with an Islamic state. Hamas is simply following through on their commitment. The Israelis want peace with its neighbors. Hamas wants to destroy its neighbor Israel.

Here is a synopsis: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamas_Charter

Yes, there was a willingness 100 years ago but Hamas progenitor absolutely refused.

There has never been a chance of peace since 1948 as only one side wanted it.

For the Palestinians it has always been all of nothing and so they will get what they deserve, nothing.

It's the ignorance that is deafening. Abducting and killing women and children is not "resistance" - it is brutal terrorism, full stop. Israel has shown mercies and tolerance to enemies that cannot grasp the concept of honor and humanity. Overcoming terror is hard enough, but a war on this level of ignorance will be hard to win especially with the media standing in the way.

We have known that humans can be evil but in reality it’s so difficult to actually see the evidence of this evil. The Israeli Defense Minister is correct when he called these individuals “animals”.

Nothing that has happened in my lifetime has driven me to arm myself...until this horrendous event. This changed how I view our world.

Beheading babies? Murdering mothers and fathers in front of their children? Raping innocent young women and parading them through the streets of Gaza? This in real time, being videoed for all the world to see and people openly cheer this? There is a sickness here that must be addressed. What is not being taught in our schools, our churches, our homes? How can these young people openly show such ignorance and total lack of compassion and understanding? Nothing can justify what Hamas has done…..full stop.

It's disgusting, but I truly wonder if social media algorithms have anything to do with their ignorance. Most young people get all of their information from social media, and social media algorithms show only more of what you've already shown interest in. Those that follow Palestinian sympathizer accounts will get more of the same over and over.

The naivete of these protestors is mind boggling. They see history, if they see it at all, only through the social media reports they look at, which serves to make them even angrier. and dangerously so. I wonder how many of them realize that most of the 900 murdered people in the towns and kibbutzim and the music festival in the south are left leaning Israelis who didn't vote for Netanyahu and many even despise him. Hamas terrorists brutally murdered the very people who wanted a two state solution, who wanted peace with the Palestinians. Don't they realize that if Hamas actually wins (God forbid!) and takes over both Gaza and the West Bank, the condition of the Palestinians would be much worse than it is now. How many of these protestors want to live in an Islamist society? A society where equal rights don't exist. How many of these women know what it would be like for them to live in an extremist Islamic society? These protestors are dangerous fools!

Expand full comment

They don’t care if those they murdered are left or right. They are Jews so they want them dead.

You seem to think Hamas is ruining its chance of a negotiated settlement by killing left leaning Jews.

But they don’t want a settlement

They want;

“Palestine free from the river to the sea”, “By any means necessary”.

Which means no Israel and no Jews from the jordan to the med.

Proportional response to me means if someone is trying to commit actual genocide on you, you better commit actual genocide on them first, not the fake nonsensical genocide the activists blather about.

Israel is acknowledged as the premier military power in the Middle East. If they wanted there to be no Arabs in the Gaza Strip, there wouldn’t be.

The Palestinian population has increased by many times since 1948, that’s some pretty piss poor genociding by the most powerful country in the area.

Expand full comment

of course I agree with you, Hamas doesn't care if they murder right wing or left wing Israelis. I don't know where you get the idea that I think Israel can negotiate a settlement with Hamas. That is crazy! My point is that the pro-Palestinian protestors will make things worse for the Palestinians by cheering on and celebrating Hamas's brutal attack on those within Israel who would advocate for a two-state solution.
