So this is what Republicans have become, and why I have not been able to consider myself one for eight years. Yeah, I suppose I'll vote for him, but I'll have to hold my nose to do so.
Yes, Melania is different. She had her own career, was very successful, she’s beautiful, rich, and doesn’t appear to take herself too seriously. Now, contrast her to Hillary, Dr. Jill, or any number of politicians’ spouses. Those who wouldn’t amount to much of anything if they weren’t married to someone famous (infamous), but appear to be so desperate for attention they never shut up or shrink from trying to be center stage. Melania is probably the most physically beautiful First Lady, and has certainly displayed more class than any since Laura Bush; however, neither was ever given much in the way of positive coverage. So, this is more about the envy and shortcomings of those doing the covering than it is about their subjects.
What an unfortunate and predictable article. Another way to trash Trump and make Milania somehow seem seem less than for having a life of her own. I don't know what their personal life is like and neither does the author of this piece, but I know that in spite of the way she was treated by the press when she was First Lady she has maintained her dignity and I respect her for that, among other things.
I don't think it's so much that she doesn't care about her husband's candidacy and the future of America, it's more that she is jaded by the fact that the entire entertainment/fashion/media-complex openly conspired in 2016 to exclude her from the American stage. This was a horrible, mean-girls move by the cruel harpies that run it all that I believe backfired on them, not that they cared. They are all part of the cult that puts their party's power over their own country's success. Melania was the most beautiful, fashionable first lady since Jackie O. Jill Biden and Michelle Obama are hags compared to her.
Let's be clear here - she is still hot. The author wants us to think that she doesn't love, or even like, her husband. I have no idea - but her disinterest in his career doesn't prove it one way or another. Not wanting her husband to be President makes a lot of sense to me - for example they have tried to kill him twice in the last two months. You also can't come out of politics with an unscathed reputation - think of Jill Biden. I think she has handled this situation with great aplomb.
Love Melania's strong eastern european stoicism. I loved her Christmas theme and if I looked as good as her, I also would dress as I like. I have no problems with her doing her thing, hell I would do the same if I was married to Trump, it must be exhausting and often embarrassing. I kind of wish a few other first ladies would have taken more of a back seat.
While a bit harsh on poor Mr.Trump- I doubt Melania holds the same disdain as the author- the article only confirmed my admiration for this ice swan. Gorgeous obviously , possessing a reserve generally held by royals, her determination in setting her own course, while nothing new, marrying an old rich guy, nonetheless her spin on this trope is inspired.
And who can forget those Imperial Palace Christmases , extraordinary ; Dr.Jill's saccharine Hallmarking of the White House was ludicrous in comparison.
Melania’s red trees were stunning, an elegantly stylized counterpoint to the oft-times predictable - though always skillfully executed, intricate, and spectacularly constructed - Christmas designs commissioned by previous First Ladies. A pleasant derivative of Jackie Kennedy’s celebrated televised tour of the refurbished residence.
White House Christmas designs seem to tend toward the carefully and variously tasteful, studied and intentional, and befitting the history and grandeur of “The People’s House”. Noted floral designers and carefully chosen floral professionals and talented volunteers from throughout the country yearly spend an intense and exhausting period installing the coveted design commission. A kudo of which the general public is almost entirely unaware.
Certainly, not all Christmases in the White House are equally elegant, stunning, or picture perfect. But most have been notable, if not memorable, for a beautIful or meaningful or charming theme.
A First Lady steeped in the design and fashion world came as a shock to the “legacy” floral design world’s annual White House standard operating procedure. That the design world writ large was at serious odds with that First Lady’s husband as well, left her vulnerable to a variety of criticisms, and to the jealousies of those who were perhaps cast aside from some routine involvement in the White House Christmas gig. The trees were a delight. And ballet elegance traditional and lovely.
I must admit to a brief struggle at controlling lady-like guffaws upon first glimpses of Jill’s Christmas visions. One imagines Delaware Christmas trees and mantels of many years enrobed in ancient and flattened faux silk flowers…and flowers, and flowers, and flowers. Visions of thumb tacks and masking tape flit across one’s closed eyelids. Almost indescribable.
Until now!
Mr. Franco, you are the genius who has given the world, “Hallmarking”!
Why the hate on this article. Personally I liked it and it made me like Melania even more. I mean she has even said she didn’t want Trump to run the first time. Personally I respect anyone who doesn’t want fame and power. I suspect she just wants the penthouse, the spa days and the cash (a nice life if you can get it).
I think it would do our country some good if we ignored ALL First Ladies and focused on the president and his ( or her) policy and leadership. In fact it would be better if we focused ONLY on policy.

She is not the only Trump that appears not to care about whether or not he wins. He acts like he doesn't care.
Nice hit piece.
Pretty vile piece
Just going to address the elephant in the room. Many of us would give our eye teeth to look like Melania.
Kat Rosenfield has no more ability to read Melania’s mind than I or anyone else.
Just an excuse for her to rip Trump without bothering to cite the facts that fuel her hate.
This piece is not worthy of the FP.

Seriously? Trump is barely mentioned and the entire article is praising Melania.

This is fucking hilarious
(I mean that very sincerely, this article was awesome)

Appreciate the tribute.

Author makes a lot of assumptions about Melania without reading her book first. Will this piece age well?
