What the new leader of Britain’s Tories is willing to die for. Plus: Merkel’s disastrous legacy, and what does sleeping with 100 men in one day do to the soul?
Badenoch is awful. Charmless, not particularly intelligent and out of her depth, she is currently being outflanked on immigration by - if you can believe it - Keir Starmer. She has the added problem of being - by her own admission - a first generation immigrant herself. Yes, she was born in the UK but was then swiftly whisked away back to Nigeria where she spent her formative school years, only to return to the UK when she was 16. She lacks the intuitive understanding of what makes the UK tick, having not grown up here. Thatcher 2.0 she most certainly is not. The Tories have made a dreadful mistake picking her as leader. They really should have chosen Robert Jenrick, as he at least had some substance to him.
70% of Massachusetts colonial occupiers not only elected her 3 times now, but apparently accept the notion that they are occupying American Indian territory, as noted in their land acknowledgements and the renaming of Columbus day across the Commonwealth (in my colonial town, too).
Yet, somehow, not a one of them has given up their land, packed up and moved back to Britain or whatever sorry hellhole they came from.
And ironically enough, Warren owes a lot of her own professional success to her appropriation of Cherokee heritage, which likely cheated a real American Indian out of an opportunity.
By my calculations, she had to have at least one man every 14.4 minutes. It seems unlikely that she was actively sexual; she was probably just lying there passively, letting them do their thing.
It got me wondering; what kind of man would be aroused in such an assembly line scenario? I wouldn't be. Would the other guys be lined up outside? Or sitting in a sort of waiting room, looking at each other? Sort of disgusting, really.
The same useful idiots, regressive morons on the Left who cheer Mangione also justify the atrocities of Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran not only against Israel, Jews, and Westerners BUT their own citizens. Never a complaint, however, of Assads, Putin, N. Korea, China et al. How, on earth, are these humans wired?
I am so tired of writers musing the word ‘next’ to consider someone. The ‘next’ Mickey Mantle, the ‘next’ Hitler’, etc, etc. Now we are told to consider a British woman s the ‘next’ Ms Thatcher.
Let’s recognize that in every facet of life there are iconic figures. Their achievements are superlative. There was a Rush Limbaugh. There is a Donald Trump. There was a Winston Churchill. And, yes, there was a Margaret Thatcher.
There is no need to burden people as the ‘next’. There was one Mohamed Ali.
There was one Josef Stalin.
All those people were unique, outstanding or infamous in their own way. We hope there will be others who will emulate them, while we wish that no one ever resembles some. Let the next wave of achievers and leaders be themselves rather than casting a preexisting mold of someone else around them. Often this is just setting them up to fail. I have been an ardent Yankee fan and someone who idolized the Mick from his beginning in baseball. Many have been proclaimed to be the ‘next’ Mick. It is a defeating prophecy. They may be excellent ballplayers, but there was only one ‘Mick’. It is unfair to brand Kemi as the next Maggie. Let her be herself, and recognize her achievements c.
It does seem to predict their success prematurely. If she's really as tough and determined as the Iron Lady, great. Good luck to her. But the proof's in the pudding.
I usually read it right in my emails (Outlook) but this new format doesn't word-wrap...the sentences just run off the page unless you open the email and make it full screen wide.
It's that way, it would seem, on all platforms and devices. I don't like it either. I wrote to tips@thefp.com requesting the function be restored. Let's hope all our comments influence a restoration.
Commenting used to be easy, which was one reason I subscribed.
Comments are also no longer sorted --- "top, etc . . ."
This is not an improvement at all.
Unless Free Press returns to being the old Free Press, l will unsubscribe. Is that your goal?
where is the sort by ?/ I am old school. this is too bold and distracting

Ah! Pocahontas, the gift that keeps on giving.
Fauxcohontas.
I used to be able to sort Comments by Top First, etc. Did the FP glow up disable sorting or is this a substack issue?
bring it back
Liz Warren and Ilhan Omar, two of the only people to have less votes than Kamala.
What does it reveal about the people of Massachusetts that they keep re-electing this sorry pos?

A mild suggestion for stepping back from the edge of cultural collapse.
Stop with the euphemisms for ugly acts.
"... an OnlyFans model slept with one hundred men in one day."
No. At least my guess is that there was no sleeping involved.
Sad and ugly business.
She was fucked by...
Or still accurate but less crudely, she had sex with...
The need to push back on depravity requires that we treat that depravity with the ugliness that it deserves.
Messalina. that is all

And "The Knack" were NOT the next Beatles...

Let’s just say that the mass murderer Thompson died as a martyr on the altar of unsustainable “insurance” policies.
I don’t like this new format, at least the way it shows on my iPad.
And, are we no longer able to prioritize comments to read the most ‘liked’ ones first? Is it all now just most recent posts first?
I usually read it right in my emails (Outlook) but this new format doesn't word-wrap...the sentences just run off the page unless you open the email and make it full screen wide.

I also cannot prioritize the comments (on a Mac). Not happy about that.
Same here. I prefer to read oldest first.
Regardless of your judgment of the public glee or inability to hold and realize the merits of two ideas at the same time, the assassination has effectively brought attention to a real problem that very much impacts individual's lives, overall patient care, and insurer profits. https://www.wsj.com/health/healthcare/doctor-physician-health-insurance-companies-anger-6f23b470?mod=djem10point

Dear Bary Weiss,
I am a new customer in The free press. You impress me no end. The way you unpack people on The front page is awsome.
Do get J.D. Vance in the chair asap.
What you have acomplished is unbeliveable
Good speed

I saw a couple of comments about TFP having a new publisher, leadership, and funding influx. Is this true, and can anyone reply with a link about it?
I know they have a funder. Otherwise I’m clueless. Who is that funder BTW?
According to one website it's Marc Andreessen, David Sacks, Old Queen Street Media : https://app.dealroom.co/companies/the_free_press_verified_account but if other commenters were correct, it may not yet reflect a new source?
I seriously doubt it’s value is $100 million.
I re-found the comments I'd seen earlier, and one provided me with this link about a new publisher for TFP: https://www.axios.com/2024/12/10/the-free-press-hires-publisher-amid-expansion
Regarding Britain's problems, Konstantin Kisin has an excellent piece today: https://www.konstantinkisin.com/p/we-need-to-talk-about-britain
