Brilliant essay, as usual.

One note: Bob Marley wrote and first performed "I Shot the Sheriff." Clapton's version was a cover. To your point, I don't think Marley killed anyone either.

American country music had a strong influence on Reggae since one of two radio stations in Jamaica in the day played country music. The Reggae artists took to the narrative element. Willie Nelson did a Reggae album called Countrymen. FWIW I love the old Reggae- Tosh, Marley, Third World, Jimmy Cliff. The new stuff is too Hip-Hop for me.
