Why do some Floridians (Floridiots?) stay in the path of a deadly storm when they can leave? Because they're fucking stupid and it's a bit of macho thing. We stayed in our home in St. Petersburg for Helene because we weren't threatened by the winds and even the worst case storm surge (which we pretty much got) left our downstairs knee-deep in water. But we had the upstairs to retreat to and by being there, we got the water out of the house and the cleaning and drying process started within minutes of the flood level dropping below the door jam.

Milton? Just like with Irma and Ian, me and my kids are more than 300 miles away, this time in Panama City Beach, not far down the road from River. If you stay in a flood zone with a storm like Milton bearing down, you're not only putting your own life at risk, but those of any first responders brave enough to try and rescue you. That makes you selfish as well as stupid.

But, all that said, I'm a 14-year transplant to Florida so I don't give a damn what the crazy Floridiots think about me.

What should I be more tolerant of? Stupidity? Maybe you're right given the state of our politics. A person needs to be at least somewhat tolerant of stupidity to even bother to participate in our political process anymore.
