TFP: No money had been spent on condoms anywhere in the Middle East
WRONG.
“[Condom] Orders were also placed by five countries (Afghanistan, Ghana, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, and Nigeria)…the annual volume for male condoms remains consistent between 550 and 650 million per year (Exhibit 6).
Like previous years, specialty/color/scented male condoms represent the majority of product type ordered
USAID, March 2022. Comprehensive Agency Report on Condoms and Lubricants, FY 2021.
"it [Politico Pro] got $8.2 million from various agencies across the entire government."
Really? And that is supposed to be somehow better? So that's exonerating if it didn't all come from USAID, but from the entire government? It's stinks like different dead fish instead of just one, so it's ok?
When the USAID sends a half million dollars to Bolivia, earmarked for research into the love life of endangered Bolivian mud flies who live nowhere else in the world but a single forest deep in the Bolivian interior, that money is actually a bribe to whatever general is running that country that month. Ensures stability and friendly policies. China's regular bribe to the general is more straightforward; the Chinese ambassador drops off a stack of U.S. dollar bills on the general's desk. We have to be a bit more circumspect for appearances sake. That's the difference.
Not yet convinced about the error of claiming that USAID earmarked $50 million for condoms in Gaza. It cannot be refuted with the simple statement:
"No money had been spent on condoms anywhere in the Middle East."
Because one of the links FP embedded in that story is from CNN, where they implicitly admitted (twice!) that actually no one can fact-check the claim for 2024 or 2025:
"Federal figures show that USAID condom aid totaled about $8 million worldwide in the 2023 fiscal year, the last year for which data is available."
"USAID had not provided any condom aid to the entire Middle East from the 2021 fiscal year through the 2023 fiscal year."
Put that together with Trump's claim that DOGE had cancelled *plans* to send such aid in the near future... also documented by CNN's link to his remarks.
This calls for more investigation about condom aid last year, in recent months, and projected shipments. Especially given that (as Trump also pointed out), in the past Hamas "used them as a method of making bombs".
Think like Hamas, folks!
With their missile stockpile, launchers, and replenishing routes destroyed, it's all too plausible that they made plans to return the booby-trap "balloons" they were using to torment Israelis in 2018-2020. They were primitive, but they burned thousands of acres of land and threatened populated areas with everything from burning rags to primed grenades. They also cynically scrawled birthday messages and "I [heart] you" on the condoms to resemble balloons -- so that young children would be tempted to pick them up.
J-Post reported (2020) that the terrorists quickly learned to "increase the range of their death toys by tying together multiple condoms... for added buoyancy." So I wouldn't put it past USAID to "aid" Hamas in continuing their "resistance" by sending huge shipments of condoms. You know... "by any means necessary."
AND given the l-o-n-g trail uncovered from USAID to Taliban -- which the UN tried to hide -- condom shipments could have been sent to intermediaries with instructions to forward them to Gaza.
"Total worldwide USAID condom spending is far less than $50 million: In the 2023 fiscal year, USAID provided or funded a global total of about $7.1 million worth of male condoms and about $1.1 million worth of female condoms, overwhelmingly to countries in Africa, according to the federal report. "
I repeat: No one at CNN was asking about USAID's actions in 2024.
And there is a good reason why journalists should be asking... Do a search for my comments in response to NJ Guy's link to the "USA Spending" data.
The missing $50M, and possibly more than that, began moving into Gaza in Sept. 2024, through the UN Population Fund (which specializes in birth control).
Why the Palestinians of Gaza, who constantly cry about ethnic cleansing at Israel's hands, would speed up their own demise by accepting contraceptives, is a very interesting riddle. (Hint: they found another use for condoms.)
Apparently a condom grant went to Gaza province in Mozambique. But there was also a $45 million contraceptive grant to the Gaza Strip. See my earlier comment, comments by Hannah W, and see for yourself here: https://www.usaspending.gov/award/ASST_NON_SPRMCO24VC0339_1900
I am confused, is politico pro not an entity of politico and thus being subsidized by the federal government. Very confusing times. I try to think for myself but WOW!
Yes, Politico Pro is a repackaged version of Politico that they sell to some customers for $10,000 or more annually per subscription. And the US Govt bought $8.2 million worth of subscriptions last year. Think that might have bought some favorable coverage?
TFP downplayed it since the govt bought the subscriptions spread across multiple agencies. But that proves nothing. Even if the US Govt is that stupid to pay full retail while spending millions at one vendor, there is no reason to think Politico wouldn't figure out that the US Govt was a very important customer. And only idiots would ever publish a piece that pissed off their biggest customer.
The outrage at the funding of the independent media in the Ukraine gets top billing, but Trump‘s perverse relationship with Putin gets a light touch.“Free“ often gets confused with cheap. Indeed, “cheap press”.
I have never complained about TFP as a publication. But since TFP reached one million subscribers, it feels like the focus has increasingly been on podcasts to the detriment of the written publication. I am sad to say that using The Front Page as a gauge, it looks like TFP is starting to falter. I know many will disagree with me, but The Front Page under Oliver Wiseman felt like a real newspaper. Both sides complained about it being a leftist or conservative rag. As an independent, I always felt that was a good sign. The introduction of articles along with the sections "Ten Stories We're Reading" and "On Our Radar" left me feeling satisfied I understood what was happening in the world. For the past several months I've had to search out other publications to feel that way. In addition, I think it is a mistake to have one person responsible for The Front Page. It should be a team of at least three writers. When it is one person, they become the target of everyone's rancor. That's going to keep happening unless there are changes. Additional voices will make The Front Page more robust, well rounded, and they can keep an eye on each others biases. The Front Page is TFP's primary introduction to the world and it's readers. Why not make it the best it can be?
No doubt many agree with you. TFP seems to be pretty rudderless most of the time. Individual reporters apparently just write what they want and post it. So, you get this weird mix.
I personally don't care if a piece gets written from a progressive perspective or a conservative perspective. But what I want is a good analysis and justification of the conclusions. Even if I disagree with the conclusion, at least I know the logic behind it.
If you find other sites that appeal, post them! I'd love to find the perfect site.
Is no one interested in why hundreds of government employees would need $17,000 subscriptions to Politico. To me, this smells very bad. Why should taxpayers fund this?
The Australian nurses bragging about killing Jews are just the tip of the iceberg across the world. It opens up a whole new Pandora's box in HR/recruitment in profiling applicants due to their ideological views - which becomes essential due to the concerning risk that if their appointment leads to the premature/suspicious death of a Jewish patient..........litigation and mistrust will overwhelm the system.
The X post that spawned the “Trump’s Gaza condom story is false” narrative apparently came from Jennifer Griffin of Fox. She did a search and found a condom grant going to Gaza province in Mozambique, and subsequently assumed MAGA confused this locale with the Gaza Strip. Other main stream media outlets subsequently referred to her reporting to deem this story to be false.
Griffin was called out shortly thereafter by several X accounts, who indeed found $45 million of State Dept funding to “SUPPORT SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH (SRH) CARE CLOSE TO THE DISPLACED POPULATIONS” in the “Gaza strip”. Was this for condoms? Maybe. But the general spirit of the original report was surely directionally correct.
Griffin then deleted her X post, but the media continues to repeat her original thesis as a basis for contradicting the original Trump/DOGE assertion.
VERY Interesting indeed. This goes well with two more documented facts which I mentioned in another comment:
(1) There is NO public record on condoms funded by USAID since 2023.
(2) Trump's claim was that a PLAN to send such aid to Gaza was cancelled.
The "fact checkers" made such a big deal about not finding evidence from the past, I got the feeling they were instructed by their handlers to throw the public a red herring. Besides, we already know how USAID colluded with the UN to cover huge amounts of aid to the Taliban, which they at first denied.
So ----- your first link to "USA Spending" fits neatly into that blind spot. Watch this:
1-- They reveal that the vaguely defined $45M was awarded in Sept. 2024 to the UN Population Fund (UNPFA), which works to reduce world population through contraceptives (the cheapest and easiest being condoms).
2-- If you follow the link behind UNPFA, you see that the UN agency actually received $182M in 2024 - over half of which ($172M) came from, guess who.... USAID. So we know USAID was heavily investing in population reduction last year.
3-- If you scroll down on that same page to the top 5 recipient "countries", you run into a list of undefined codes. The no. 1 country is a mysterious "XGZ", which received $45M for population reduction.
4 -- I deciphered that from an obscure 42-page appendix to the US Treasury "Foreign Credit Reporting System", page 32. Guess who "XGZ" is. "Gaza Strip".
5-- Pause for reflection.
That tiny enclave of max. 2 million Palestinians (including women and children) received $45M from USAID, channeled via the UN Population Fund, which majors in contraceptives like condoms. The same tiny enclave that accuses the 'evil Zionists' of trying to decimate their population through ethnic cleansing, etc., accepts top ranking as a target for UN population reduction.
6-- Either that, or they want to stockpile dual-use contraceptives (having already proven in past years that condoms make great airborne booby-traps which float into Israel and cause physical, economic and emotional damage).
7 -- Among the top five recipients are also two other terrorist-controlled countries with pro-Hamas sympathies: Afghanistan ($44.6M), Yemen ($30.4M). In my earlier comment, I speculated on intermediary recipients of condoms that might collude with the UN to keep Hamas supplied with primitive airborne bombs. Here are the most likely suspects.
Anyway, thank you NJ Guy for providing that link. I hope FP will follow the bread crumbs for more revelations.
Thank you....I figured as much. Our 1st Amendment is consumed by the Fact Checkers and the Gotcha Press.
Disturbing.
I had an online argument about the SSA numbers found [20 million old people of age 130+...or something like that]. He said that was a lie. I asked for links [just to annoy him]...he gave me a link to SSA.org, Snopes, and Wired. I laughed...as only an online conversation will allow.

Exactly. As if Politico wouldn't figure out that their biggest customer was the US Govt.
And only the Bud Light marketing guru would be stupid enough to ignore their largest customers.
Our own government helps fund the Left's two domestic propaganda machines right here in the States: NPR and PBS.

Hannah, I posted info before reading your excellent comment. My post supports yours.
The USAID 2021 Report on Condoms and Lubricants
Far too often, River Page pieces are off-the-cuff and inaccurate. Is there no editor, no fact-checker at TFP?
