Yes, Politico Pro is a repackaged version of Politico that they sell to some customers for $10,000 or more annually per subscription. And the US Govt bought $8.2 million worth of subscriptions last year. Think that might have bought some favorable coverage?
TFP downplayed it since the govt bought the subscriptions spread across multiple agencies. But that proves nothing. Even if the US Govt is that stupid to pay full retail while spending millions at one vendor, there is no reason to think Politico wouldn't figure out that the US Govt was a very important customer. And only idiots would ever publish a piece that pissed off their biggest customer.
