The problem with debate is it's inequitable. Debate requires facts, some historical perspective, to be articulate, a facile mind, to understand, respond, and make counter points. Everyone one of us, on the other hand, can call someone a fill-in-the-blank-onist, scream over the top the other's speech, and stomp our feet or blockade the meeting hall. Much easier, and, more effective. If we get cornered we can just change the meaning our words, or deny whatever we said a minute ago. Hey, the lowest common denominator is the most common, and equitable, denominator!
