I think some of that safetyism is a holdover from procedures during the pandemic. In some places those practices got entrenched. In my school district, we are mostly back to pre-pandemic practices that are more open and welcoming to parents.
There was a LOT of inter-district movement of teachers and administrators following the year of closures, and a lot of institutional memory for how to run things day-to-day got lost.
I think it would be fixable if more parents speak out.
