Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Thank you for your thoughtful comments. A few things: I think thing started going awry before Trump, starting with Bush 2, and getting worse under Obama (I voted for him twice but really disliked his divisive, condescending attitude, "clinging to guns and religion, and all that". I don't think Trump "caused" it intentionally, but I think his behavior gave his opponents permission and cover to unmask themselves. His opponents didn't change, they just stopped pretending. Furthermore, when Trump won, his opponents believed that they could no longer trust the electorate, and we had to be lied to and manipulated to be sure we could never make a mistake like that again, and we had to use the courts to seal the deal. Finally, I think both sides use their rhetoric to divide us. They use the bare minimum of fact (if any at all) to rally us to their cause. Abortion is a perfect example. Most Americans have a nuanced and humane approach to abortion, but you wouldn't know it by the people yelling "baby killer" or "woman killer" at each other. Remember, THE PEOPLE were legalizing abortion BEFORE Roe because they were repulsed by women dying due to illegal abortions. What I want to know, and can't seem to find out is, are the women dying because the abortion LAW is wrong, or because doctors are afraid and NOT adhering to the standard of care, AND just how much abortion is taking place in the last trimester and for what reason. Do we really have many or any abortions at that stage that are elective? Or are these due to fetal viability, or saving the life of the mother? At some point, we must acknowledge that each person is in charge of his/her soul.
Great comment.....thank you for saving me the energy of making my own very similar one. I've noticed this trend among commenters to support Harris-Walz because they're exhausted by the chaos and rancor caused by Trump's candidacies. Trump is fighting the tyranny of the leftist bureaucratic (deep) state, beholden only to their corporate donors. It's a fight worth fighting, which is why I'll for for a candidate (Trump) I struggle to like or even listen to speak.
Great points - the abortion debate centers so much around "late term abortions" and yet neither side ever shows us the statistics to back their claims that they are/aren't happening and for what reason. To me, the Dems could slam dunk that debate if they simply showed they happened to save the lives of mothers.
