If you read magazines like MOJO and Rolling Stone you can get the impression that there's an almost endless supply of great new music out there, some of it being made by creative geniuses that you've never even heard of. If you actually listen to the songs so praised, though, you'll almost inevitably come to the realization that it's impossible for an artist to be so utterly talentless, or to write songs so bad, that a music reviewer, or ten, won't sing the praises of his or her work.

On that note, Evan Gardner says Ice Spice "takes the sound of the streets and combines it with the pop songs of her adolescence. The result is an innovative genre..."

Check out her "Deli" video on YouTube (65m views). Is what you see and hear innovative in any sense or just the latest iteration of prurient, pressurized "attitude" being fired into our faces from a mass cultural crap-nozzle? Her new song "Think U The Shit (Fart)" (6.3m views in just 7 days) is likewise 100% fungible, the product of a dumbed-down, low-standards form of cultural echolalia.

Gardner describes Ice Spice's songs as "a piece of bubblegum you can't help but munch." Well, personally, I'd cross the street six blocks early to avoid munching on that.

Now, get off my lawn!
