Peter, your premise and your question of an actual military sniper, were just plain stupid...Bari & Nellie,,,, please find smarter authors that Peter for pretending (or may actually be channeling) the stupidity of Joy Reid for looking for a fake Trump assassination...I expect better from the Free Press...Savodnik is consistently disappointing...maybe he needs the job...I would suggest that he needs a brain and some experience.

Mr. Savodnik. Perhaps you might read Nellie Bowles send up this week. She talks about Dems whoactively think that Crooks could intentionally hit Trumps ear. But it took 0.15 seconds for the bullets to travel to Trump. That's roughly the time it took for him to turn his head just right. Impossible.

Dems are passing pro-trans laws after Europe has been shutting down trans "care" for children.

I'm a historical Democrat. But I'm also a PhD who wrote for West Point on terrorist leadership. Biden's handlers write the teleprompter text. They knew EXACTLY what they were doing giving him that line. It's cribbed straight from Sarah Palin.

There is no question they wanted him dead. And the police and secret service response was so bad. It doesn't take a Bourne identity plot.

There is no such thing as unacceptable opinion. You need all of the opinions just incase you find out that the unacceptable opinion is actually correct. Unless you don't actually want the correct answer.

Mr. Savodnik. I'm not saying Mr Mills is correct, but perhaps there is a reason that you're a journalist and not a doctor or lawyer.

Those who have lived a little and are of higher intelligence are aware that you don't always have to wait for clear evidence , often times you have to be discerning and read between the lines, or problems will eventually arise.

Maybe not in the courts, but if you want to have success in life.

Sometimes the circumstantial evidence is so clear or the behavior of the guilty so indicative of their crime, that you might not need evidence to come to a pretty solid conclusion.

Often times the great doctor, who can save your life, is one that picks up on subtle and not obvious signs and or symptoms and treats the patient accordingly before conclusive testing comes in.

Life is often making decisions without having 100% evidence or certainty.

Part of successful living is making good decisions in these circumstances.

"The problem is that any culture that does away with guardrails, that doesn’t allow for a delineation between truth and untruth..."

That assertion is exponentially more dangerous than any goofy rabbit-hole notions espoused by either side. Who in this nebulous entity "culture" gets to decide what comprises a "guardrail" delineating between truth and untruth? Where is this font of pure truth? In Cambridge? At the NYT? At the DNC? In the Holy Order of Content Mediators? Perhaps Peter Savodnik himself is so assured of his personal rightness on all matters that he can be the Oracle of Delphi for all of Western civilization? What kind of journalist advocates for the most insidious and totalitarian kind of censorship?

Peter, as a journalist, you get to attend the best college you can get into where they will perhaps teach you two things to be good at: digging out stories and the rhetorical skill to present them compellingly. Journalism is not possessing a world view that, when challenged, instead of doubling down on research and rhetoric, the journalist calls for society to silence everyone who doesn't buy his view. You are a crappy journalist Mr. Savodnik and your profession should be ashamed of your advocating for what amounts to the abolition of the First Amendment.

In reference to your conversation with Rep. Mills: "...when there was no evidence to back that up..." You were tagged as a "liberal" because that is the NPR trope for evidence-we-don't-want-to-see. The walking around public with no journalistic bona fides sees the breathtaking failure (incompetence?) as prima facia evidence that if you were Iran, or Hillary, or Beelzebub himself, that measure of buffoonery is not what even the most cynical among us would believe our tax dollars had purchased. In fact, to the form, if the questions get longer in the tooth with no plausible, better explanation it simply becomes more meme-able (Epstein Didn't Kill Himself) fodder.

I think of the NPR superlative scale as the best measure of the divergence: "There is no evidence of the Biden family's corruption." [Candidate Biden on stage at the debate in 2020--"My son never took a nickel from China...] "With ABSOLUTELY no evidence of corruption, republicans are claiming..." [Biden leans on a letter signed by 51 former intelligence officials to "show" the Russian disinformation about his son's business dealings...despite having to acknowledge millions of dollars from China.] "With absolutely no evidence of corruption WHATSOEVER, Republicans continue to claim..." [here are the now corroborated texts, emails, cancelled checks...]

Rep. Mills may have mistaken you for the other team's propaganda machine, but he thought he recognized the "secret handshake."

The caption under Kirk's photo identifies him as "right wing." While I wear it as a badge, liberals and Leftists use "right wing" as pejorative. Why are nearly ALL Republicans and their supporters so often identified as "right wing," but every Leftist kook is identified as liberal?

I know the answer. The press is so often liberal that even Leftists seem normal to them, but they loathe anythung that violates a liberal or Left narrative that they MUST label it in a manner that conjures up the worst of conservatism. So much for cooling down the language.

For context, I'm a Libertarian-minded Conservative who is NOT a Trump fan. Nor am I a fan of what's happened to the Republican Party. But this one sentence- "Kirk took the lead in spreading the LIE (empasis mine) that Israel allowed Hamas to attack..." shows Peter's bias; his knee-jerk assumption that any pushback against the mainstream narrative MUST be bullshit. How in the world would Mr. Savodnik know whether or not it's a lie? I certainly don't. Is he privy to the inner workings of Mossad? I too am beyond tired of the vast army of Trump sycophants, but stories are true if they're true, and false if they're false, and refusing to consider that a message might be true simply because the recipient has a distaste for the messenger is the opposite of being open minded.

Weird that stating this is considered antisemitic. Many Israelis also think that somebody sold them out. There are debates about who exactly and for what reason, but it's a widely held belief, true or not.

There's plenty of idiocy to go around. The only question that matters is, which party overall is worse for America? Who sucks less in power, not who is good and true blue? It's obviously the DEImocrats.

Trump indeed got a gift from God, but he threw it away in the last 20 minutes of his speech last night. He simply could not shut up when he had to. He could NOT retain even a modicum of self control when that was his only only only job last night. Just don't say crazy stuff. But he did. He stuck the bean up his nose at the dinner table just before dessert. He proved he is as crazy as Biden is senile. Pray we get an anti-Woke, anti-Hamas-sympathizer Democratic candidate, a Democrat who stops talking about our genitals and starts talking about American Strength and Safety and Jobs. Will some fucking body please listen to James Carville????

We don't listen to Carville because he is often vulgar and always drunk when he appears on TV...wish you truth was somewhere else...but you picked Carville and you lost!! Only thing he has ever done "right" is marry the perfectly, imperfect conservative woman!!

Humor is helpful in this situation. The Democrat's only good advice comes from a vulgar drunken Cajun. Oh well.

I'm pretty darn conservative, but I'd vote for a sane Democrat before I'd vote for either of our current candidates. I hope that you'd be willing to vote for a sane, centrist Conservative (I don't care about the Republican label) rather than voting for Biden or Trump.

Mark Kelly would be an improvement. Military background. A man with actual courage. An actual man in fact. But he is no friend of Israel, so I hesitate. Shapiro is also an actual man who leads, but not sure we are ready for a Jewish president. The point is the Democratic Party is a mess and real competition would improve both parties.

Mark Kelly is a distinguished Marine pilot and astronaut, he married Gabby Giffords, he is anti Second Amendment, anti gun and has done nothing for the state of AZ and has been totally clueless on Biden's open border policy...he is not a man, he is a former pilot/astronaut that knows nothing about how to deal with China, Iran or Oregon...he is not qualified to be the President of the United States, let him demonstrate some competency in the state of AZ before you promote him to be the leader of the world...

I get your point but what Vance actually said was that Alex Jones doesn't sound any crazier than Rachel Maddow. I get that he's setting the bar incredibly low but if you're going to accuse people of nuttery, don't use Propublica as your source. That's my humble advice, anyway.

Additionally if we're separating the border between reality and the unreal let's start with you repeating the leftist lie (I know, I know) that Trump started the obama birth certificate question. The reality is that Hitlery postulated that obama was born outside of the US late in her 2008 campaign. This was a little after her "obama isn't a moslem, as far as I know" statement.

Trump did pick the ball up and run with it later. Regarding the hitlery incident just as now slobovnik attributes it Trump in typical never mind reality fashion so too have the leftist "fact checkers" dismissed the truth regarding the original source.

Hitlery had her muck rakers find the goods. She had her devoted followers disseminate the find.
