Why?
Was this an attempt to sacrifice Israeli lives to ramp up annihilation of the Palestinians? Was it to send a message to Biden and his Iran $6b?
It beggars belief that the most sophisticated military ever to exist had no idea weapons were being imported by Hamas (possibly from Afghanistan and Ukraine) and then that training exercises were held in preparation for the horrific acts of violent insurrection on display.
This was a planned attack that was ignored by intelligence. Military equipment on the scale used in this attack is not easy to move. It was a slaughter of the innocent that could not possibly have gone undetected either online or on the ground and an account of why it was ignored must form a part of the US and Israel's response to what was logically, rationally, a preventable slaughter.
May all parties involved be shamed and tortured by their neglect for the sanctity of human life.
When this is over, Israel will live - in grief, but it will live - but all that will remain of the perpetrators and their supporters will be red stains in the dirt. Am Yisrael Chai!
Daniel Gordis reports from Israel that they are getting their news from Hamas propaganda and not from the IDF. I have to wonder if there was a serious cyber breach which could also explain the complete lack of intelligence of the attack when the fences were breached. After all, Iran, and possibly even Russia, are behind Hamas.
I do so hope that the recriminations against the Israeli government don’t start so soon, although from this piece it seems they already have. What Israel needs now is solidarity against their enemy, not pissing inside the tent. Take the example of the democrats in the US after 9 11. They were in agreement for a while but then stopped and started fomenting and that never ends well.
Not surprisingly the first word from the Biden Administration ( since deleted) urged Israel not to respond. What else would the Mullahs bagmen say. The Biden Administration is culpable in this act of terror.
Haven’t felt this mixture of sadness, anger and bewilderment since I walked out of shul 50 years ago on Yom Kippur. The worst kind of Pogrom and within the nation HaShem entrusted to us. Enough of this fighting among ourselves! There is no choice. Ahm Yisroyal Chai.

You mentioned nothing about the ultra religious/orthodox, who have gotten a waiver from serving in the army and thus will not be sacrificing their lives to protect the country. I know to bring this up now is divisive, but perhaps this crisis will make that waiver in the near future untenable.
Prayers that Israel will hold strong and respond accordingly and will prevail and that the world will FINALLY accept the truth of who really are the terrorists and warmongers. My prayers are with you and your sons and daughters who must face this horrific enemy.

The numbers of dead - not even including the hostages, who are as good as - are already proportionally greater than American losses on 9/11.
