Wholly agree with Weiss' view that DEI should be scrapped, and her supporting arguments for the objective reality of merit over fabricated identity politics and the tiresome oppressor/oppressed narrative. Disagree with this, however: "...nothing has made the dangers of DEI clearer than what’s happening these days on our college campuses ...."
How about gender ideologues' sustained campaign to erase the material reality of "female," and with it, historical protections granted girls and women via single-sex spaces? Diversifying LGB to add the alphabet nonsense and including males in the definition of female is more upside down, and -- affecting as it does half the population -- a more dangerous expression of the DEI/woke world view than anything occurring specifically on college campuses. Of course, it is happening there, too. (Anyone remember Title IX?)
We have Jewish people going back into hiding in fear. We have individuals calling for segregated dorms, graduations, even sports teams. We have women fleeing to other states for medical care that hasn’t been decided for them. And we have college students cheering on actual bigots and terrorists.
This is absolutely not progress. This is going backwards 100 years.

DEI is a race to the bottom, a race to see which group can win the title of calling itself the most victimized. What's next after that? The logical progression from DEI thinking is to play America as the bully on the world stage, consuming a disproportionate amount of resources. The next thing you know, there will be calls for "equality of outcome" between American and other nations in terms of consumption of resources. This can only mean more waste, where talent is squashed, and the incompetent rewarded, on a global scale.
I draw the interesting distinction that Jews and Asian Americans have in common: in that these two groups are both underrepresented in the population, but overrepresented in achievements.
Unless you have some special insight that the rest of us are missing, I am going on what I see, not on any 3rd party interpretation. There is certainly enough footage of him unvarnished without any need to read any media portrayal. He is pretty straightforward to read - vindictive, narcissistic, ignorant, crass, and fundamentally un-American in his outlook - at least not the America I grew up with. Trump's vision of America is revolting and not something I want to see again - and based on the last two times he ran, not something the majority of Americans want to see either, since he still hasn't mustered more votes for himself than his opponent in either run.
"Some of the most important Jewish communal organizations transformed themselves in order to prop up this ideology."
In the language of the highly educated members of so many institutions of 'higher learning', and looking at the sudden 'my eyes have been opened!' reactions of the Bill Ackman types who hold the purse strings of these institutions, as a straight, heterosexual, White man, I want to say thank-you for acknowledging this. Lots of people are coming to the party kinda late. But, better late than never.
Just so glad I have found and subscribed to The Free Press. A massive eye and ear blast of cleansing thoughts that inform, irritate, entertain and quench a thirst we almost forgot we had.
Great article and I absolutely agree with your conclusions. I would like to add to this that in addition to Jews and Asians this problem has been an issue for Non-Jewish Whites, especially men for a long time now. It’s such a harmful, NOBODY should be discriminated against based on race, gender, religion etc and yet we’ve allowed this insanity to be accepted. America’s best ideals are those that support meritocracy regardless of other characteristics.
you, as I said, seem very self righteous; you believe you know what G-d thinks and what you think is what you want everyone to do. The Old Testament does not give the same status to the fetus as it does to the mother. The Torah is very clear about this. If a pregant woman is struck and is injured, her assailant is only responsible for harm done to HER and not to the unborn. The life you refer to is dependent on the mother's body for life, for sustainment and for growth. We Jews by the way have a long tradition of questioning. "Two Jews, three opinions". As you know, since you are obviously an intelligent person, there are people of strong faith and moral convictions on both sides of this issue. You do not have the higher moral ground on this issue. My majority concerns are with the mother, the woman who is here, who is fully functioning. Let's leave it at that.
At the direction of the President and the Secretary of Defense, DEI is being taught and inculcated into the culture of the military academies. Many criticize the effect as divisive. Each cadet and midshipmen battalion and squadron has identified DEI Officers to ensure political correctness. An ugly system of mind or behavior control that. I attended the Air Force Academy. My grandchildren will not.
We made a couple of huge errors. First, often our Jewishness went "underground", unlike the Jewishness of the 1950's and 1960's. Second, we thought we were loved by the groups and causes we committed ourselves to - and we likely were - as long as we were silent about being Jews. Now we see who our friends are - and are not. It is frightening and saddening. I would like to say that neither the far left NOR the far right are our friends.
Hey Bari - any take on what's happening in tech right now? Just curious.

Jews worked hard to elect and empower the people who hate them. It never made sense but, politically, American Jews are "smart, smart, smart, stupid."

We are going backwards 100 years, very fast.

A remarkable summary of why DEI should DIE.

Apologies, should say it’s such a harmful policy…
