I can understand Europe, with their long and sordid history of anti-Semitism protesting Eden's inclusion in Eurovision. However, I never thought I'd see the day in which anti-Semitism would rear its ugly head in the US to the degree it has. I fortunately live in an area in north Texas which is ardently pro-Israel and pro Jewish people, so we still have hope in this country that we'll continue to stand with Israel,.notwithstanding the Biden admins plaque of Israel haters. I do admire the young woman for her sunny disposition and strength and laud her for carrying on in spite of all the vitriol.

I loved this interview, so uplifting in the middle of such continuous pain. I also enjoyed seeing Suzy "on the job," she is perfect for this role.

I grew up with Eurovision and as a kid witnessed the big Israeli wins like Izar Cohen and Gali Atari in the late 70s. What happened in Sweden was to me evidence of how anti-Semitism is now mainstream in Europe and sadly prevalent among its young. Again this is one of the defining stories of this long war that started on October 7th. Eden Golan is awesome and strong. Thanks Suzy for highlighting and interviewing.

How stupid can people be? Referencing that LGBTQ bars were protesting the presences of an Israeli singer because of their support for Palestine/Hamas. When just two years ago, Ahmad Hacham Hamdi abu Marakhia was tortured and beheaded for being gay. He fled to Israel for safety, but made the mistake of returning to Hebron, Palestine to say farewell to his family. The authorities in Palestine encourage the reporting of people who may be gay & action is taken against the gay person and their family. How is it credible that groups marched in pride parades and hold banners supporting Palestine?

Did you know that it was the North that wanted to count black people as zero? The SOUTH wanted to count each black person (slave) as one. Why? Because counting each black person as one whole person would have given the slave owning states greater representation in Congress i.e. power. So they "compromised" with 3/5. In actuality, in those dark days, it would have been better to give the south a count of zero for each black person, thereby lowering their voice in Congress. Please understand that of course it sounds horrible to count any human being as 3/4 (*edit: 3/5) compared to another. The concept is abhorent. But it isn't what it appears to be at first glance.

Was it?? I always thought it was 3/4. Math aside, (haha) my basic point is 100% (math again, lol) accurate . :) I stand corrected. Thanks for helping me get the percentage correct in the future.

Not often you think of true courage, a courageous act being one of just singing a song. However, I also cannot understand how ignorance and hate can distort peoples ability to not see how ludicrous, shallow and infantile their words and actions are. They literally hate this singer because of her religion and her country. It is a music and entertainment festival for all the world to see and be entertained. Let the joy and fun take care of all. No political votes should be asked for or taken. But hate obviously can infiltrate ignorant and porous minds. To me music can be one of the most uplifting and emotional experiences. At certain times of my life they have been both healing, incredibly joyful and healing. Amazing how hate and ignorance overrode that for so many people.

A last point I did not realize that Suzy looks so much like her mother.

You don't have to be Jewish to experience the mob mentality of the enlightened Europeans. You can be Russian, too. There have been reports of Russians in Europe facing discrimination in their daily lives, including harassment at work, in schools, and in social settings. Some Russian-owned businesses experienced boycotts and vandalism. Russian students and researchers faced suspensions and expulsions from European universities.

Specifically:

Anna Netrebko - The soprano faced cancellations from major opera houses and was criticized in the West for her ties to Putin. Despite her later statement against the war, she continued to face protests and hostility from Western audiences and institutions.

Denis Matsuev - The pianist experienced cancellations of his concerts in Western countries and faced public ridicule and hostility.

Yuri Tschinkel - A prominent mathematician, Tschinkel had his lecture at the University of Bonn canceled, facing public and professional backlash due to his Russian nationality and perceived connections to the Russian state.

Daniil Medvedev - The tennis player faced calls for his exclusion from tournaments. Wimbledon banned Russian and Belarusian players in 2022

Russian National Teams - Entire national teams in various sports, such as soccer, basketball, and hockey, have been banned from international competitions, including the FIFA World Cup and UEFA competitions, which has resulted in widespread criticism and hostility directed at the athletes. An especially cruel example: Russian athletes were banned from the 2022 Winter Paralympics by the International Paralympic Committee. The decision was significantly influenced by pressure from European countries.

Back to the Eurovision Song fest: have you guys noticed that Russians have not experienced any boycott at the festival at all? Do you know why? Because they have not been allowed to participate in it since 2022? Surprised? Not?

Finally, I'm not Russian and have no specific ties to Russia, just trying pro provide some perspective.

Thanks for this post, 11. Literally every country in the world, the people within it are not representative of its government (good or bad). Evaluating each individual on the basis of their soul and character, and not immutable attributes is the mark of an enlightened person who embodies the best of Western liberalism. There are too many today who have abandoned this for a sinister, mob mentality.

Just don't ban our Russian goaltenders (Bobrovsky, Sorokin, Shesterkin, Varlomov, etc.)!

One other point she made, that when a siren went off, it was casual thing and no big deal because of Iron Dome.

In a very real way, Israel had become arrogant on far too many fronts. It is one thing to believe you've got good defenses. Another to think you're no longer vulnerable -- that's arrogance. Like other nations, Israel makes mistakes. They thought they were prepared. But they weren't.

The cruelty shown to the Israeli participant -- at a music festival -- being asked if she endangered others is hard to overstate.

Good for Eden to give a safe answer and positive answer.

Jews being safe at a music festival is a very much a 2024 issue. People at EuroVision weren't at risk because of Jews. The people at risk were Jews.

The journalist that asked Mz Golan if she is worried her presence is placing others at risk is typical for main stream media.

I would have responded “Are you really blaming the victim for this insanity?”

Speaking of insanity, when I look up the difinition of insanity in the dictionary I see a picture of Greta Thunberg.

At a music festival, of all things. Last I checked, it was Israelis which had reason to fear being killed and kidnapped at a music festival. Not the other way around.

And fwiw, she spoke to her own fears about something happening during her performance. I doubt other contestants had the level/type of concerns she did.

Greta and her acolytes are a great example of the double speak, morally disengaged world we live in today. To be an environmentalist you have to hate Israel, even though Israel has a stellar environmental track record and is regularly inventing new environmentally friendly technology. You have to be pro everything Muslim even though its the Muslim countries who are mass producing oil. Intersectionality its the 1984 lexicon for today's woke activists: just make sure to leave your brain at the door.
