When we planned the conversation you’re going to hear today—a live conversation with Douglas Murray—we thought it would be a searching conversation that we’d release on the anniversary of October 7th, looking back at a year of war from a slightly quieter moment.
Such a brilliant, important message to Liberals and people on the Left who believe they love peace: escalation of hostilities is not the opposite of peace, it is the road to peace. Ceasefires are the road to ongoing hostilities. When people don the mantle of oppressed victimhood to carry out barbaric acts, the correct response is to call out their barbarity and fight against it, and not to excuse it as either the acceptable actions of victims or, worse yet, the heroic actions of freedom fighters taking part in justifiable resistance.
Douglas has been an unquestionable ally of Israel and, as a fellow gentile, I absolute appreciate his clear-eyed coverage of the conflict since October 7th. If we in the west can’t stand with the people who share our values, what good are these values to begin with?
I went to hear Mr. Murray speak at The Beacon Theater in NYC last week. Besides the fact that he is a brilliant orator, he has a clarity of vision about Israel, the US, Iran and the Middle East that is too often misunderstood.
His point is that Israel is simply the front lines of the war Iran and its proxies war are fighting to eliminate all we hold dear— democracy, freedom of speech, freedom to live as one pleases, freedom of religion and freedom to protest. The burka is one very clear example of the way Iran wants the world to live. If you are a female, would you like to be covered head to toe with just a small slit to see from? If you want to, then please do. But if you don’t want to and live in Iran (or many other extreme Islamic regimes) and Iran wins this war, you will be forced to cover yourself. Or if you are gay or any other lifestyle outside the man/woman lifestyle, you will be killed.
Murray says that the US and other western nations should be selling Israel all the arms it needs to win this war. Because if G-d forbid they lose it, Iran and its proxies will be expanding to Europe and the US and we will be in a hot war with Iran.
