Charles Colson made the point in his book Born Again that the circle of deceit will break apart as soon as one or more sense serious threat to themselves. (BTW Colson saw a connection to the refusal to recant of Jesus' disciples. Their willingness to die to stand for the truth.)
In Dave, other characters were not willing to go down with the Frank Langella ship... and the ship was saved. Now, in our time, Individual "threat assessments" are being made in the D.C. quagmire. We'll see what happens.
