Cats are a bane on society, the environment and perform no function other than 'being there'.

Now, full disclosure, I like dags. :)

"It’s been less than two weeks since the 39-year-old Ohio senator was picked as Trump’s running mate, and it already seems like every single one of his past utterances has been picked apart for damaging details. "

And yet the same media that's doing the picking on Vance, hasn't verified that Harris is / was the Border Czar.

Oh for G-d's sake. This has nothing to do with cats and everything to do with the mess contemporary feminism has made of women's lives. I cannot imagine how women live within the inane moral guardrails the have trapped themselves in.

The childless part is an adjective, the cat lady part is the noun, and its synonymous with “karens.” Busybody women who think they’re saviors. PLEASE see the “white women for Harris” call with 100;000+ absolutely crazy women on it, some of whom surely have kids, all of whom are total leftist karens.

Expand full comment

“Karens” is a super sexist term. In my experience men complain at least as much as women, if not more. In our HOA, the two biggest complainers by far are two men over 60. They report minor violations constantly.

I can't believe the inanity of many comments here. Wild generalizations about the voting patterns and beliefs (about such issues as transgender) of single women who have cats (with no data to back them up). What about single women who have dogs? Or horses? Do they somehow have different political opinions? What about single men who have cats or dogs? What about single women or men who have no animals at all? Instead of simply acknowledging that Vance may be right on many issues but was wrong in this statement, his followers seem to be making even wilder statements than he did

Yes, it's important to discuss such serious subjects.

Every single offended person I know is a single cat lady on the left. Those of us who actually listened to what Vance had to say on this subject understand that he was talking about the humility and maturity that comes with having children when you can have those children, as well as

the maturity and humility that comes from wanting children but being unable to have children of your own. He's against leftist selfishness.

Expand full comment

Well you don’t know many people then. Everyone I’ve talked to is aghast at that statement, whether they are male or female, whether they have kids or not, whatever their politics.

And there is little correlation, in my experience, between maturity and the number of kids people have.

And if we’re going to talk about selfishness - what about the selfishness of men who father children but do little of the work to raise them? That would apply to a lot of men.

Expand full comment

What about them? They suck. They're horrible. It's not how I roll, and not what I raised my son to be like. Not the men I associate with. Reflects badly on all men. Again, they suck. Ugh. It should be the commitment of every man to do 60 percent of the labor, and 70 percent of the worst of the labor.

Expand full comment

It's selfish not to want children but not selfish to overpopulate the world with over-consuming selfish kids. Got it.

Expand full comment

With all due respect, the United States and the West on a per capita basis has done a whole lot more for the world than many places where there are normally a lot of children in a family. So yeah, let some other countries worry about overpopulation.

Expand full comment

GW couldn't have kids but he adopted some anyway, bad comparison with those who choose not to have kids for possibly selfish reasons. Of course it's their choice whether to propagate the species or not but they should not be lauded for it nor should Vance be castigated for daring to disagree on the basis of what is, in his opinion, 'good for the country'. Personal choices in the aggregate do determine our future so we all must take responsibility for the choices we make and their consequences in this as every other area.

Let's have some fun. We'll keep track of metaphorical insults that refer to a limited group of the elites (on either/both side(s)). Then we'll watch as adversaries of the metaphor-coiner extend the implications of the metaphor way beyong their intended reach... and smile at the superficial outrage.

I’ve yet to see anyone offended by this who isn’t already a Dem programmed to become offended by anything anyone on the right says.

Let’s not pretend this is like a real story.

Expand full comment

Exactly. People that have a demented hatred for Trump just get their orders and obey. Biden is sharp as heck and a decent man and a great president, vote for him! Biden was old and senile, Harris is amazing I love her! Vance is weird and hates women! Who else shall I love / hate tomorrow?

Well it IS an example of a dead end political message. I prefer sound argument and rhetoric to personal attacks, no matter how toothless.

That's why RFK is the man

I don’t like JD, but when he explained his position on Megyn Kelly it was extremely sound, thought out and policy centric. I don’t have a clue what your talking about in terms of personal attacks. Any chance you’re looking to get offended?

Expand full comment

The analogy with Hillary is wrong. Hillary called folks deplorable AFTER she was running for president. Vance fumbled in the conversation with Megyn Kelly because he now needs to be less divisive — he is trying to say the Other “guys” are divisive, but not succeeding.

Are these comments coming back to haunt him? I thought the only people upset were lefty cat ladies and their white knights. I don’t think those demographics represent anything worth caring about. Right?

I am offended. I am married with a child and do not have a cat. Most of the comments here are silly ad hominem attacks. The fact is, it is neither polite nor vice-presidential to attack people on such silly grounds. What about single men or childless men who have dogs? Are they selfish too?

When, oh when, is the Right going to start focusing on policies and not stupid cultural nonsense? While I DO know quite a few childless cat ladies who correspond to Vance's comments, I know more women who have struggled with infertility and childlessness that was not of their choosing. We will not get anywhere slamming Kamala on her laugh or pointing out that she was a DEI hire. We need to be the grown ups in the room for once and focus on the failed policies of the last four years.

Vance was talking policy, poorly worded: the Democratic policies that undermine marriage, two parent homes, family.

What is politics downstream from, again?

My wife is severely PO'd at Vance for the 'Childless Cat Lady' comment. I confess I don't really understand how this comment evoked such ire. She tried several times to come up with a male version of an insult that would be on parr with this one and I was "meh" for all of them. As a committed follower of nerd culture, would Vance have been better off to use the term "Vogon". Vogons: "I've just had an unhappy love affair and see no reason for you to be happy or would you like me to read some poetry?".

Your wife is upset? Why?

If I could just have one person explain what is offensive about his comments but I’ve yet to hear any explanation that isn’t coming from a cat lady or a cat lady’s white night.

Your opinion is automatically discounted for use of the MRA term “white knight.”

The Megyn Kelly interview is definitely worth the listen- and I have a feeling Oliver did not have his volume turned up to hear the whole thing. Vance's argument is against the policies and leaders who are increasingly anti-child/family whether it be because of climate doom, the idea that kids take away from one's ability to have endless fun and frivolity, and the idea that society doesn't need to evolve and change (improve) to allow for a women in positions of power or accomplishment who are also valued moms and wives (and men as fathers and husbands). I am not a big fan of Trump, but I think the polices he would enact are far better than the Biden track we are on or even the more left that Harris would take us. If Trump loses I predict it is because of the misinterpretation of Vance's position based on this cat woman line and the power of the abortion movement. A society whose (even small) majority fights to be able to end human life at all stages is probably not headed in a healthy direction and will likely not be viewed well by history, but msnbc will celebrate.

"...able to end human life..." amounts to human sacrifice for appeasement of the gods. "Wrath" comes to mind...

Anyone else running into this issue; some of today’s comments, mine & others, seem to be disappearing, moved to another article, even quasi abridged or deleted.

This is across several articles posted today, even the Front Page? Is there some technical blip?
