More power to him. The left's demand for political correctness and social justice to be included in all aspects of life, including comedy, is turning us into a mass of anxiety filled, unfunny basket cases who have to walk on eggshells at every interaction with another human being. It's so taxing.
A "Minneapolis Comedy Club" = First Avenue, the venue made famous by Prince in his movie Purple Rain, which usually hosts live music. At the last minute, they chose to give in to the demands of a very vocal group of histrionic protesters. It takes a lot more than painting everything black to be cool, and on that day we found out that First Avenue didn't have much more than a veneer.
For the last time. The sentencing guidelines are to be followed by judges and are absolutely color blind. If black defendants are 1.8 times more likely to be liable to life sentences under the guideline, that's just how the guidelines work. They are colorblind. Because black defendants actually receive life sentences at a rate 1.6 times that of whites, they are actually given such sentences at a rate that is lower than the guidelines prescribe. I don't know why this is so difficult for you.
Initially I bristled at the headline for this write up. Austin has a huge comedy history and already from my perspective is the very heartbeat of creative ridiculousness. The Big Stinkin Comedy Fest which was replaced later by Out of Bounds. Esther’s Follies. The Funniest Person in Austin contest, all of the made-up mayhem at the Hideout Theatre... I was worried this was gonna be a regular Moontower Comedy Fest Debacle - claiming to be the first real comedy in town (boo Moontower... do your homework!)
... but actually I loved the write up. I had no idea Rogan bought the Ritz, but it’s super perfect. The Ritz was bought by the Alamo Drafthouse at one point and hosted loads of hilarious and wonderful quote-alongs, sing-alongs and more. To hear it’s become something amazing brings me much joy because that venue was meant for good times!
And Joes right. Texas is awesome! I miss living there like crazy. Best NYE I ever had was the one where I went to see Joe Rogan at Cap City.
I hope the Mothership takes off. It’s certainly exciting to read about!
Yes he can:) and only 90 minutes drive for me. Maybe a decent reason to get in the ungodly Austin traffic for once. It's not what it used to be, that's for sure.
I SO love stories like this, about alternative societal structures being built as a sort-of "FU" to the increasingly insane cultural milieu. A "parallel" world, where those of us who haven't been sucked into the cult can happily live our lives, including getting to enjoy REAL material from the MASTERS of comedy!
How come Los Angeles and New York city haven't sent down bus loads of picketers to protest the opposition to the New York and L.A. sense of entitlement? As a person who spends time on both coasts in Florida and California, the unentitled sense of superiority of Californians make me glad to come to my true home in Florida where people don't move around like automatons or zombies.
This was interesting. I used to live in Austin many years ago. That club must have caused waves politically, but there are enough "others" there to support this. Must be super popular.
I'm not a Joe Rogan fanatic, but every time I see a clip of his work I am impressed by his intellect and personality. Seemingly one of very few reasonable men left
Los Angeles, and California on the whole, are beautiful places but only because of the geography. It’s the elected officials, mostly of the left, who have turned it into a dump by embracing the notion that we should let everyone “live their best lives” even if it means allowing drug encampments to fester.
How does all this comidy affect the music scene in Austin?
And here I thought the requirement to be a comedian was that one be funny. Shows how old-fashioned and out of touch I am, I guess.

I have to make my way to here.

And brave the homeless and gangbusters. But that said, me too. I have steadfastly avoided Houston for three years.

Thank you for this article. I visit Austin from time to time, to see my elderly mom. I will add this club to the (rather small) list of places to go.
I like Vince Young's too. Really good steaks and excellent service. At least the last time I was there.
Good to know.
Next time you see Tim Dillon do a whole profile on him, dude is slept on as the next Rogan
A tight, one hour podcast per week and his angles put every opinion in a crossfire
His Summer in Nantucket pod was the first I heard and I was in stitches
On the migrants sent by DeSantis last year

He should be sending them to Bocca, all the good parties are done by now."
His opinions on Austin are objectively correct, I'd always rather be in Houston than Texas Lite, for people who aren't from Texas

I would put Russell Brand in that category, as well.
