Original subscriber here. I decided to let my subscription lapse. I know I sound like one of those “take my marbles and go home” people. This enormous event though is my tipping point.

I wondered to myself “why now?” Here’s a key thing I’ve realized. TFP is emotionally driven, not fact based. Bari obviously has every right to run her publication as she sees fit. I can’t argue with the enormous success she’s had. Maybe I’m not the right subscriber for TFP.

Here is the key hypocrisy I see. The previous watershed event we had was the Hamas slaughter of 1,200 innocent Israelis. Insult was added to injury by the sickening response by the media, college administrators, our government, and many of our citizens. I was totally with TFP and can completely see their perspective even though I’m not Jewish. I reveled in their lampooning of the administration, colleges, media and celebrities for their ridiculous and downright anti-Semitic views. This event was deeply personal for Bari though. I think in that case her personal feelings aligned with the truth. So in that respect it was easy to be true to TFP aspirations.

So where is their outrage at the treatment of Trump? Where are the interviews with conservatives who were shocked and dismayed? Where are the thought pieces about how the crazy left got so far off track in this country? It’s nowhere to be found. Just a bunch of both sides-ism. That is because They Don’t Like Trump and they blame him for his own near death experience. There probably is a tinge of guilt there too for their own participation in the demonization of Trump. Articles to rationalize this behavior make them feel better without admitting fault.

Well, sorry, that just doesn’t pass the smell test. If you are going to let your personal feelings drive your editorial decisions then your publication has no right to toot its own horn about being the lone objective voice in a sea of madness. You remind us of that so often of your supposed superiority I think you realize it’s not true deep in your heart.

It’s been fun. I actually think the people in the comments could do a better job editorially than Bari and company. You might look to recruit a few of them to help you regain/ attain objectivity. Maybe if something like that happens I’ll be back.

The two sides are not the same. It is the left that is pushing the boundaries of government and culture far past what normal politics can handle. They have promoted an obviously senile old man into the pinnacle of power so they can control him. And the picture of Obama and Romney canoodling is perfect: Romney lost. Before Trump, the GOP was content to nominate affable losers who made nice concession speeches. I am interested in winning, and Trump will fight and win. He has transformed the GOP for the better. Our government is too big, too wasteful, and captured by those that have no respect for my rights or cultural inheritance, and I want none of it. Trump fights. He is the indispensable man right now. The rhetorical temperature can go up or down, but we need to win.

Two culprits for this in Congress are:

1. Women

2. Cameras

Bring one female under 40 to a construction site of only men, or on a submarine, or in a doughnut shop and everything changes. Our Creator wishes us to continue our species. Like why women wear rouge and high heels. We must recognize this chemistry, even in Congress. As for cameras, why do people smile? Cameras magnify the chemistry.

Hmm. Well, actually women don’t like being the constant subject of unsolicited male attention. It’s annoying and distracting when it’s not downright scary. I don’t know if men have any responsibility in removing this burden from their daughters’ sisters’ mothers’ lives. And I don’t mean laws that make women cover up or stay indoors! That’s one way male-run societies do this and it’s awful. I realize sexuality and sexual attraction is complicated and difficult if not impossible to legislate, but manners matter. Not harassing women is plain old manners. I think men can do that. For their part, I think women should devote some serious contemplation to the idea that they may dress as sex-forwardly as they want and not be responded to in a sexual way. I’ve always felt this part of feminism was dumb and distracting from the main point. That said, every woman, regardless of how she’s dressed, does have the right to say no and to be treated with basic respect. She may be interested in enjoying looks and reactions - maybe what she’s after is unclear even to herself - but she’s not asking for “it.”

"President Biden, the Democrats, and their allies in the media have devoted the last few years to calling Trump and his supporters everything from extreme threats to democracy to semi-fascists. Trump, of course, elevated the politics of personal destruction to an art form during the 2016 campaign and hasn’t let up, recently calling Biden “an old, broken-down pile of crap” and Vice President Kamala Harris “pathetic.”

Biden is using incendiary language with references to the most evil people ever on planet Earth. Trump is merely insulting an old man for being infirm. And you think this is the same?

Shame on you.

Here are just a few of the things Trump has tweeted about Biden:

“the living embodiment of the decrepit and depraved political class,” “the candidate of rioters, looters, arsonists, gun-grabbers, flag-burners, Marxists, lobbyists, and special interests” “He doesn’t know me, but he would go down fast and hard, crying all the way,” “Crooked daddy,” “a Radical Left nonbeliever, who wants to take your religion & your guns,” “You & your children won’t be SAFE in Biden’s America,” “ No one will be SAFE in Joe Biden’s America!” “he’s COMPROMISED”

retweeted a video of a supporter saying that the "only good Democrat is a dead Democrat."

From recent rallies: “Joe Biden is not the defender of American democracy, Joe Biden is the destroyer of American democracy.”

Some choice hits from Jan. 6:

“If Pence doesn’t (refuse to certify) You will have an illegitimate president. That's what you'll have. And we can't let that happen.”

“They want to indoctrinate your children. It's all part of the comprehensive assault on our democracy,”

“The radical left knows exactly what they're doing. They're ruthless and it's time that somebody did something about it.”

“And Mike Pence, I hope you're going to stand up for the good of our Constitution and for the good of our country. And if you're not, I'm going to be very disappointed in you. I will tell you right now. I'm not hearing good stories.”

“It's a dirty business. You have a lot of bad people out there (in the capitol)”

“if you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore.”

Being shot is not vindication. Trump is still a rapist, an insurrectionist, and an enemy of the republic and of human decency.

Expand full comment

There was an insurrection. The President's son's laptop contained a lot of information, among it was both evidence suggesting that he was peddling his father's influence to companies in adversarial countries and also e-mails from his father's secret account. An account the House committee investigating it discovered through the laptop and traced it back to Joe. While FBI forensic analysts have only recently confirmed that the laptop is the real deal, Joe and House Democrats have known all along. They knew when Schiff used his letterhead on the House Intelligence Committee to pressure social media to suppress it, an act he lost his seat over btw. They knew when Joe said 'It's Russian disinformation, man' to Trump in the debate. The polls clearly show that had the 1st amendment rights of the country's oldest newspaper, founded by Alexander Hamilton, not been suppressed, Biden would have lost 5 swing states he needed to take office. Now what does that all mean? Well, it means that Biden is an illegitimate President and it means that Jan. 6 protesters and Donald Trump were the ones actually defending our democracy. It also means that Democrats engaged in insurrection, knowingly subverting the Presidential election by using their offices to suppress Constitutional rights in order to hide evidence of their party leader's corruption from the American people. Everybody knows this now, even the most zealous liberals who are proud of it. But the American people don't feel about it the way Democrats would like and so they're going to vote them out in November. Then the new Republican administration is going to dismiss all the people that worked against the President's authority because of their partisan beliefs. There will be an administrative purge, with corrupt employees being replaced with honest, dedicated government servants instead of employees of the DNC. There will be investigations and hopefully prosecutions of Democrat officials, not for revenge but for justice. The mechanisms Democrats have used to subvert our laws are being dismantled in real time. No longer can they abuse agency rulemaking to foist their agenda on the country without going through our elected officials, the Chevron Deference is gone. (The Independent Counsel law expired in 1999 btw, the current Special Counsel law relies on Janet Reno's rule making, hence Cannon's finding of it as unconstitutional) The creation from whole cloth by the '73 SCOTUS of an 'implied right' to give themselves jurisdiction to intervene in the sovereign states and dictate abortion regulation has finally been recognized as unconstitutional. We have laws and everyone will obey them. Corrupt judges need to be impeached and disbarred. When they disallow all possible defenses to the defendant's attorneys prior to a trial, as in the suit where Trump was found to be responsible for a sexual assault that will be overturned for that reason, though Democrats hope it's after the election. When they allow a defendant to be tried for creating a false business record to cover up a crime and allow the prosecution to present no evidence of a crime nor even name it during the trial and further that by instructing the jury that in the United States they do not have to be unanimous on a matter of fact. When they are so arrogant they say in the press that the defendant's attorneys didn't request a jury trial because they knew one would not be granted as in Letitia James' suit about exaggerating the value of real estate holdings. And let's not forget Fani's graft, hiring her unqualified boyfriend and paying him a third of a million dollars from the public trough while accepting lavish travel, hotels and meals from his firm. Democrats are blatantly, unashamedly lawless, but the sheriff has finally come to town.

I also missed when he was criminally charged and convicted of rape? Please provide those details as well because I've searched exhaustively and have found nothing of the sort. Maybe you were thinking of a defamation suit in a corrupt civil court in an area where he wasn't going to get a fair trail with a leftist presiding judge? Or maybe you have a case of TDS. BTW, Joe Biden's daughter said he inappropriately showered with her.

Expand full comment

Read the January 6 report. He incited a mob that stormed the capitol and caused his own vice president to flee in fear for his life, accompanied by a military aide carrying National Command Authority materials. He may not have been convicted of insurrection, but neither were Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee.

Judge Kaplan ruled that the jury had found that he'd committed rape in the common understanding of the word. I know it was a civil trial, so was the wrongful death action brought against OJ Simpson.

I do agree that TDS exists: Trump Debasement Syndrome, where people sacrifice their integrity and bend the knee for various reasons. I'm sure JD Vance could write a book about it. As could Liz Cheney, but from a different perspective.

Let's ask why is Trump hated & will it change?

The Progressives hate him but then they shout down (hate) anyone who challenges them & there's much to challenge!

Mainstream democrats hate him because they anointed Billary "Queen" of America & along came this TV personality, "crotch grabbing", real estate mogul who sent her packing. After all she is the legitimate President. Just ask her.

The Rhinos (I call them Bushies) hate him because they expected, insisted, that Jeb be President & Tump chewed him up & spit him out.

So it's power & money lost.

This piece is completely one sided. The left has spent the last 8 years incessantly lying about Donald Trump about pretty much everything under the sun at every juncture, including calling Trump Hitler. The lies get bigger and more outrageous by the minute. My father survived Hitler's concentration camps-his brother didn't and was murdered at Auschwitz by Hitler's henchmen. If you've participated in this Trump is Hitler scheme, shame on you - you are not worth the ink on this paper. If you haven't, why have you not condemned in the strongest words those promoting these vicious and horrific lies? You see, you are part of the problem and you are a hypocrite as well.

Left: Trump is Hitler and his extreme followers (of which many are white supremacists) are the greatest threat this nation has ever faced. Right: Hasn't been able to say much because of the left's censorship regime stamps out a lot of truths. But the right called out the lies about Russia, a Ukranian phone call, the very fine people hoax, the sucker loser hoax, and the Hitler hoax, to name just a few. Its disgusting. Trump calling Biden a piece of crap and Harris pathetic is pretty true, but unlikely to wind up some unhinged person to go out and shoot either of them. Broadcasting and amplifying things like "trump will end voting, will shut down liberal media outlets as heard from Joy and Rachel are unconscionable and incredible divisive and could absolutely wind up a lunatic to do harm, thinking they are doing somne good.. If we are being honest about the Biden/Harris comment, one would laugh first, then probably cry.

You just don't want to admit that moral equivalency is nonexistent and this charade is one of the largest one-sided schemes every concocted by a political party and the media - its marketing department, with help from the government, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn CISA, and many others.

Your dishonesty is disgusting, and that's why I'm calling you out. You want healing, do better, be honest and stop lying.

The rules for this forum don't say I can't call out total BS. Dan Goldman: He must be eliminated. Just one example of many. You and much of the media have blood all over your hands and we are onto you like stank on Biden's diaper. This is much like the way you have stoked racial tension. People of different color live peacefully in communities all over this great country but the media won't stop lying about it.

In closing, It's clear you'd like to place 50% of the blame on conservatives, but most of the blame resides with the media, academia, big tech and the Democratic party. Almost entirely.

This is best, most accurate comment by far. No moral equivalency.

Good grief, no. Evoking the suffering of those who died in the Holocaust to bolster a facile partisan argument is just as shameful as saying Trump is the new Hitler. If you were being honest, you would acknowledge that Republicans have also played their part in raising the temperature of politics. The list of inflammatory remarks by Trump, his spokespeople, and members of congress is longer than can be printed here, going back to his 2016 campaign.
