I am bewildered (so I should not ) by the reasons for Kamala's support. It is not the good of the country, not to defend democracy. It is HISTORY first-black, Asian woman, without children. Wow that is the main reason for her election? Oh yeah, easy funds transfer and united party elite. God, save America, please!

In defense of the democrats elation over Harris, based on people I know, I think a lot of democrats don’t necessarily think she’s their best candidate or even a great option, but they are just so relieved to have biden out of the way and they at least have someone capable of representing their views on stage. And there is some pragmatism on rallying around a candidate who supports your positions. That said, anyone who is a “party member” like a delegate is going to give overly effusive praise that maybe exceeds the true sentiments of the voters.

“She’s a proven leader”

Delusional.

Most Americans no longer examine the merits of their candidates, but simply vote for the selected leader of their tribe. DEI pick Kamala is riding the wave.

Agreed. The Dems are going to rally strongly around whoever is nominated. It's the swing voters in a handful of states that matter, though. Harris makes no sense for that - at best it might be close with Trump. A centrist Dem from a swing state would put the Dems in the lead. Why choose an incompetent and unpopular DEI hire?

The democrats have given up their rights to the Democrat elites. Schumer said this was grassroots up….he knows full well it was party elite putting their power before the country! I am not against democrats. I am against the progressive goal of centralizing power in DC. Kamala was voted the most progressive, ie socialist, in congress when she was a senator. As VP, she lived off the taxpayer as she waited her turn.

I think Kamala Harris is a terrific choice. She is pro woman’s choice re: abortion, pro gun control and highly intelligent!! She’s got my vote!!!!

Deborah, Kamala is stupid (failed her first law bar test, which 45% of candidates pass, meaning she is in the bottom 55th percentile) . She also doesn't realize that we don't have a reasonable abortion law because when she and Biden had a supermajority, they would not make a 15-week bill work. Today, even Pence supports a 15-week abortion bill. Kamala is so dumb, she thinks gun control works despite the facts (link here; I've given you New Hampshire to Illinois, but do what you want to alter the parameters. You will see that gun control laws don't translate into fewer gun-related deaths. Other factors are in play, like population density and poverty, etc.: https://everytownresearch.org/rankings/compare/?states=NH%2CFL Please stop writing that Kamala is smart; there is no such evidence. Know what evidence we do have? That, undisputed by any news outlet, she mixed, at 30 years old, sex, favors, publicly-awarded jobs and public funds under the aegis of the cartoonishly-named Willie Brown: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1994-11-29-mn-2787-story.html

"Latonya tells me she “really wanted” Biden to stay in the race. She believed his cancellation of more than $167 billion of student debt would “help us as a nation in the long run”"

I'd like someone to square that circle. How exactly would that help us as a nation?

Since the loans come from our tax dollars and are sent to our elite universities, forgiveness effectively creates a massive wealth transfer from taxpayers to universities. And, since the borrowers by and large are upper middle class (aka "the wealthy" according to Dems), it subsidizes college for the wealthy. Thus, our nation is helped by enriching our venerable educational institutions so they can continue indoctrinating our youth in the ways of wokeness and antisemitism, and it provides a much needed financial boost to our country's future progressive voters. So helpful to our country!

Exactly! Well-said. It astonishes me that such a self-serving enterprise as American higher education (a.k.a. the Academic-Industrial Complex) has drawn such scant attention for its criminal abuse of the interests of its students: tuition increases that vastly outpace inflation; degrees without marketability; professors who hardly enter classrooms; relationships with foreign nationals that compromise the interests and security of the U.S.; grade inflation; hoovering up of tax dollars from the government despite endowments of obscene value; rampant fraudulent research; failure to protect the safety of students; and no tolerance for heterodox ideas.

Everything's moving suspiciously fast. The almost immediate switch from Biden to Harris reminds me of the anti-Israel rallies on October 8th that followed the massacre on October 7th.

Good observation. Everything appears staged, orchestrated to small details.

I am quite surprised to start receiving solicitation emails from Biden and Kamala this week, first - minutes after the announcement. And I never received any Democrat emails before.

Anyone think this is deception? Appear to be going with the absolute weakest candidate they can find, then actually nominate one of the centrists at the convention? Probably not, but...

Paying off student debt is dead in the water legally. The dems need to keep up. My taxes paying off anyone else's loan is a huge insult. Especially since the very programs that produced that debt are still in place. No problem with men in woman's sports is the worse part of the dem platform. Join that up with our uncontrolled border, hard pass on this party. Trump for common sense in 2024.

The crucial question is, will enough voters, especially those with an aversion to Trump’s ‘controversial’ personality quirks, agree with you come Election Day? Hoping his VP choice - made when Biden was still the candidate - will not come back to haunt him.

I hope that the FP will focus less on the leading candidates, and more on the parties and how we saddled ourselves with these candidates, how we can do a better job influencing candidate selection, and who might meet more sensible standards than the ones we are using now. The candidates themselves really aren't worth discussing much - they appear to have no core beliefs, and even the cunning and ambition that we sometimes value in amoral leaders is deployed solely for their own benefit.

Why talk more about the leading candidates to become the US commander in chief, when both lose their own staff members at a rate that would disqualify them for retail management jobs? It's like a bunch of diabetics in a vicious argument over whether we should eat only Twinkies, or only HoHos, for the next four years. Please use your brains and and your platform to cover better options.

The only problem with Biden’s candidacy that was broadcast by the Democratic elite and their faithful MSM was his age. Now that the age problem is solved and the blessing has been dispensed, it is no surprise that loyal masses and their delegates line up behind the princess. They like the stimulus, the forgiveness of debt, and enjoy the noble messaging of social justice. The rich have enough money to be expropriated to pay for all of this. Trump is a threat to this status quo and must be defeated at all costs. They do not care about the real problems or the state and direction of the country. The only hope is that the damage the Democratic leadership is causing every step of this campaign is large enough to make the undecided think carefully and make the right choice.

“We talk a lot about Dr. Martin Luther King, and we talk about his dream,” he says. “Well, this (Kamala Harris presidential candidacy) is the dream coming to fruition.”

Dr MLK said: "I have a dream that children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

To say that Kamala Harris represents the fulfillment of MLK's dream BECAUSE of the color of her skin is a perversion of his proclamation. According to Dr. King, the only thing we should consider is the content of her character.

Expand full comment

My thoughts, too.

Considering Kamala Harris by the color of her skin or her ethnicity is just another form of racism. It's the complete opposite of Dr. King's dream.

Also, insisting on her gender or her skin color may be another way to divert our attention from her abysmal track record as a VP.
