"Never believe that antisemites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The antisemites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past."

~ Jean-Paul Satre, 1946

Not only do they want Hamas to win.

They want every Jew killed.

What is the evidence that Hamas does not speak for the people of Gaza?

Expand full comment

The only strong evidence is that, after Hamas was elected (and they WERE democratically elected and, thus, officially DO speak for the people of Gaza), Hamas suspended future elections….

There are adults born and raised in Gaza who have never had the chance to cast a vote, pro or con, regarding Hamas and its representation of them.

They've been told that their impoverishment and misery is not their own fault but is caused by oppressors in Israel. Next door, in Israel, prosperity and contentment abound mostly because of education and entrepreneurship.

Meanwhile the Gazans imprison their women to a life as breeders, memorize the Koran and drink tea. But it's Israel that is keeping them from wealth and prosperity.

Maybe when their leaders stole billions from global aid that was meant for the Palestinians, or Hamas was taking car keys from locals before Israel retaliated in order to increase the body count or perhaps when they spent billions for tunnels that did absolutely nothing for their economy? How about when Hamas has intercepted truckloads of food and water meant for the people? Need more “evidence”?

All that proves is that they don’t want to die for Hamas, not that they don’t support Hamas. Not the same thing.

The Arab World for Research and Development did a poll of Palestinians in November. It found Palestinians are almost all supporters of terrorists. You can find it on their website, the data is taken from page 5 of this report.

Palestinians were asked to assess the role of a list of relevant parties during the war:

76-89% approval: Al Qassam Brigades, Islamic Jihad, Al Aqsa Brigades, and Hamas.

32%-48% approval: Arab media, Hizballah, Red Cross, China, Turkey, Iran, 23% approval: Fateh.

9-14% approval: Egypt, Jordan, Western media, UN.

0-3% approval: EU, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, USA and Israel.

I look for a Democratic leader -- any leader -- to make the accurate assessment of Palestinian society.

I put this out often because its accurate. These are actual Palestinian values as practiced in actual Palestinian society:

rule of law? No

free speech? No

freedom of the press? No

abortion rights? No

freedom of religion? No

freedom to protest? No

voting rights? No

LGBT rights? No

women’s rights? No

due process rights? No

But murder, kidnapping and rape? Those actions on 10/7 got overwhelming approval from Palestinian society.

What does a society like that deserve?

The protesters don't have a point. They just hate.

The biggest lie ever told is that these are PRO-Palestine protesters.

The definition of protest, per Oxford - a liberal dictionary:

"to say or do something to show that you disagree with something or think it is bad, especially publicly"

So what do they disagree with? What do they think is bad? Jews and Israel.

Protests are by nature ANTI, not PRO. This doublespeak of PRO-Palestine protesters is similar to the Orwellian "Freedom FROM" framing that the Democrats have been using this week, instead of "Freedom TO."

We should all be afraid when language is used in this way. It is so dishonest. And anyone who agrees with this redefining of language is a sociopath.

These people aren't pro-Palestinian at any level.

Anyone who is really pro-Palestinian would hate what hamas has brought and want them removed. Anyone who is really pro-Palestinian would hate what Iran has brought and would want their influence removed.

Anyone who is really pro-Palestinian would push FOR basic rights (voting, religious, press, speech, protest, etc). They'd advocate FOR due process and rule of law. They'd advocate FOR a better relationship with Israel. Advocate FOR preventing corruption. FOR trade. FOR better environmental management. FOR wiser and more efficient use of water.

Objectively, Palestinian society is among the world's worst. So do they advocate FOR making a better society? Nope.

"To take one of dozens of examples, just peruse a letter sent to Columbia University’s administration on October 9 from its chapters of Jewish Voice for Peace and Students for Justice in Palestine. It said, “Yesterday was an unprecedented historic moment for the Palestinians of Gaza, who tore through the wall that has been suffocating them in one of the most densely populated areas on Earth for the past 16 years.”"

Wow - I hadn't seen that before. That is horrific to read. Mass murder, rape, and abduction of 1,200 innocent civilians and they celebrated it as if it were some kind of tearing down of the Berlin wall.

THIS IS NOW ABOUT HAMAS AND ONLY HAMAS. "The protesters are not asking for a negotiated agreement whereby Hamas returns the hostages (or those who are still alive) in exchange for a period of calm, which has been the approach of Biden’s administration. They seek an end only to Israel’s actions in Gaza and have not made any demands of Hamas, the terrorist group that started the war on October 7.

Biden himself, in his remarks in Chicago, even acknowledged that Hamas is “backing away” from its earlier acceptance of a ceasefire deal, something this terrorist group does every time an agreement seems near." (Biden just pulled a Trump "very fine people on both sides". Yes, people are suffering and dying on both sides, a travesty, but Hamas is the group that pulled the rip cord on October 7. Israel left Gaza 17 years ago, and Gaza elected Hamas, keeps it in power with Iranian backing & money, spent all the money meant for its people and infrastructure to build tunnels under its civilians, hoard weapons, medical supplies, and food for its fighters not for its people. THAT is Hamas - and they bear the responsibility for putting their citizens in harms way. Once Israel left, Gaza wanted no help from Israel to build, only to destroy. Think about it. If the US had "withdrawn" from Canada for ridiculous example, the US would have no obligation to trade with Canada or help Canada in any way. This all boils down to Hamas, and a blind hatred that drives everything they do at any cost. They cannot justify their existence without this. Do you really believe that there can be peace without a change in their government? I would like to believe so, but alas, I do not. The Gazan people are not all Hamas, but they need to make their voices heard if they want something different. And, what do the moderate Arab nations in the Middle East think is going to happen in Hamas wins? They are next on Iran's hit list. What do most Americans not get? Israel is "the Little Satan" and America is 'the Big Satan". Israel is just the canary in the coal mine. Don't you realize that we are also next on the hit list?

It's insane to me that the mainstream media refuses to point any of this out. Hamas has literally said "we're going to do more attacks like October 7th" and any non-right-leaning media just buries it.

Billions of dollars given to Gaza, all used for terror. Not a penny to protect their own citizens for the war they knew they would start. It's so disgusting.

International politics are much more complex than is rocket science - while rocket scientists are generally much more intelligent and much more educated than politicians, they are all trying to make the rocket fly; politicians have myriad, nuanced, and oft-counterintuitive motivations.

However complex the world of physics may be, it is principled and unwavering. The world of politics is selfish and plastic.

This mess will not be resolved in the near future. The Palestinians will never make a deal. The Muslim world seems concerned but not enough to actually help the refugees. Everyone would have been better off had we just given the Jews Nevada back in 1950. Peace. Joy. Joy.

One problem is the NYT is reframing the problem with the peace talks as Israel backing away and adding new conditions: "In broad terms, the U.S. proposal appears to conform to new demands added by Mr. Netanyahu in July that some Israeli troops continue to patrol part of an area of Gaza along the border with Egypt, according to Hamas and Israeli officials....Hamas rejects a continued Israeli presence in the area and is demanding a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Egypt says that keeping Israeli troops in the Philadelphi Corridor would raise national security concerns and would be unacceptable to the Egyptian public. Mr. Blinken told reporters on Tuesday that Israel has already agreed to terms of withdrawal and reaffirmed that the United States would “not accept any long-term occupation of Gaza by Israel.” To me it makes perfect sense for Israel to keep troops in an area that hosts horrific terrorist attacks against it, and monitor the corridor used to smuggle in weapons. Why is that considered unreasonable?

Expand full comment

It's unreasonable because it's Israel. Any other nation, everyone would accept it as the obvious solution.

What I don't understand is Bibi said, when Israel is done, they want nothing to do with Gaza. It would be someone else problem. Hamas states no two state solution, does blinken not understand these simple concepts? The only question is, will the next president go into office trying to manage a regional war in the Middle East growing into a possible third WW?

I have no problem defining Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran's activities over generations since 1979 as genocidal against the so called Palestinian people.

And the Jews. It's an expicit call by all the above. Read what they say, hear what they say as people refused to do during the nazi regime and the german Dictator. So far no actor of the current generation has risen to mocking the Ayattolahs kicking around the globe for jihad.

I just caught that line by Biden.....as I briefly switched to the convention......I was so disgusted I immediately turned it off......I voted for this guy....good riddance.

I’m a retired LEO with too many experiences with criminally destructive, hostile, violent, and hateful agitators. It’s amazing that the instigators appear to be the same no matter the cause at the moment: Black-Blok, Antifa, Occupy, BLM associated rioting, and now pro-Hamas appear to share an eerily similar core group of masked cosplay youth who are a small percent of persons present yet responsible for all of the non-peaceful and non-lawful destruction. Their true cause is never fully advertised; their true cause is anarchy and/or a complete overthrow of the status quo so that society can be molded into a socialist/communist “utopia” and - ultimately - an authoritarian system to ensure the outcomes they desire.

They are the proverbial useful idiots. The Nazis relied on the Brownshirts to take power and, as soon as they did, held the Night of the Long Knives because the once-useful malcontents had become a threat to their control. The fascists incorporated their Blackshirts into their official structure, pandering to their lack of principle.

Marxism is not an economic model but a system of social upheaval - once the status quo has been changed, future upheaval must be nipped in the bud. Schadenfreude is not justice, but it can be cathartic. They’ll eat their own, soon enough.
