Bari, excellent article as usual, both heartbreaking and inspiring.

But I can't figure out how Cincinnatus ever walked within 200km of Palestine. This was 500BC and Rome was just a regional player in central Italy, half the Meditteranian away. There were trade routes but... it seems extremely unlikely. This is 10 years before Marathon. The Near East was Persian, Athens were only slowly beginning to be a thing... Rome was essentially insignificant and had no business whatsoever that far East. Is there some legend I'm missing?
