Milei seems to have the guts to confront the state and articulates his agenda very well. Hopefully he has the leadership skills to see it through and the sense to know when to be practical.
In Bari’s opening comment she states that many of the people protesting against Israel and for Hamas are “smart”. Can we please see and state the obvious that whoever these people are, the young students and older faculty, they are not smart at all. They are arrogant, entitled, spoiled, not well read apparently, and exceedingly gullible. They cannot arrive at simple, reasonable and obvious correct conclusions (see October 7). A lack of common sense and moral compass are not attributes of being “smart”.
This guy gets it. He’s no idiot either with multiple degrees in economics. There are many 3/4 letter illegal agencies that we pay for and what I mean by illegal is they weren’t created through Congress. There was never supposed to be this central govt. The forefathers wanted states to be mostly in charge of its citizens day to day lives as it would allow us to have more control of our lives. Does anyone feel we get bang for our buck from the federal govt? They have done a fine job racking up almost 36 trillion in debt where our taxes would get paid down if most of these bullshit illegal agencies were abolished. Many redundant. It’s time for us to do the same thing Argentina is doing and get control of our spending and freedom of our lives. We’ve been too stupid for too long. If we got rid of our debt there would be a lot more money to help those who need it.
I might or (mostly) I might not agree with him, but I think that, as a society, we benefit from listening to rational people that take us out of our comfort zone. Great interview. Best of luck to el Presidente.
Thank you for the interview. This is really good discussion, very stimulating. I would like to thank to you both by posting a quote from Ludwig Von Mises:
"Everyone carries a part of society on his shoulders; no one is relieved of his share of responsibility by others. And no one can find a safe way out for himself if society is sweeping toward destruction. Therefore, everyone, in his own interests, must thrust himself vigorously into the intellectual battle. None can stand aside with unconcern; the interest of everyone hangs on the result. Whether he chooses or not, every man is drawn into the great historical struggle, the decisive battle into which our epoch has plunged us."
Thank you Javier Milei for "thrusting yourself vigorously into the intellectual battle".
At the start of his term Milei reminded us that, "The state cannot create anything." Though it may perform reasonably well in certain niches, a lack of competitors means the cost is not properly constrained. Private contractors come in sometimes but that just adds to the bloat. If that's going to happen there should be regular rebids to ensure value for the taxpayer. More broadly it's important for citizens to question every expense. It would be great to see a resurgence in citizen-based tax auditing organizations.
Thank you, Bari for this amazing interview. I'm so happy you got back to, what I expect happened because of the results of your recent poll, interviewing interesting people on your Honestly podcast. Milei, Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Seinfeld.....brilliant, and just like the early years, I can't wait to hear who's next to be interviewed . And all though I am of course elated that a little podcast evolved into The Free Press and has brought you and your wife the success you so deserve, I do miss the "smaller" times when TGIF was sarcastic and witty and done by Nellie from A-Z. That feeling of waking up and getting ready to laugh, copy and paste to friends, is over. For me it is just another " ten stories we're reading", "the front page", or "on our radar" that comes daily, but this one with David Mamet's thing (never got that) and people sending in pic's from all over the world (love it). As said, Nellie's TGIF I miss. But you interviewing interesting people....THANK YOU!
The whole rest of the world’s leaders have to be conspiring to ruin his plan to save Argentina. Soros cannot allow a free country to show recovery from socialism. Argentina must fail.
Excellent interview! I ran into a neighbor the other day, who is Argentinian, and he was talking about how bad Milei is for the country. I disagreed and asked him, how, after 80 years of failed pseudo-socialism and corruption, is he bad? He couldn't answer. Bravo, Milei!
He never takes about the people directly affected by shock therapy policies. How and what do to eat and live?
An anarcho-capitalism running for high office (and winning) is one of the most cannibalistic things I could ever dream of witnessing.
Thank you Ms. Weiss.

Somewhere Ron Swanson has stars in his eyes and a song in his heart.

LOVE the Free Press!

What an excellent interview. You don't get a sense of how intelligent this man is until he gets a chance to answer intelligent questions.
A compelling interview. A worthy moment from TFP. A few dollars well spent.
He is brilliant love him.
This was so informative and just what I needed to learn about this man and his ideas for his country. Thank you, Bari!

And zero based budgeting!
