David Sedaris is a humorist and author of many best selling books: Calypso, Theft By Finding, Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Naked, Holidays On Ice, Barrel Fever… just to name a few.
Insightful and funny except the punch line ending with rocks thrown at Mexicans. He should have been punched back on that. Trying to illustrate behavior a kid could do to baffle adults with a hate crime as an example is just not funny. Just like when Bill Burr grossly mispronouned one of Mexico's greatest singers at the Grammy's and appeared to think the funny part was her insignificance rather than his own cultural ignoranace. These are both great comics but they misfire amd deserve ridicule when they do.
Not only was this a fabulous gift, it gave me the best excuse to stop everything and call my lifelong best friend. We’ve been roommates off and on throughput our lives and during one of those times we were obsessively devouring anything David or Amy Sedaris created. We saw David live at UNCW and watched Strangers With Candy religiously. I texted her a link to this podcast and we spent the rest of the day trading our favorite lines. She loved the suggestion that strangers be allowed to discipline children and I loved the difference between France and England. Thank you so much for this gem. Buying the new book right now. This was especially appreciated because it comes during an absolute lull in podcast content.
I was scared to listen because I just love David. His audiobooks were like a warm blanket and a hot cup of tea back in 08/09, when I could not find a job to save my life right after finishing grad school. I'd climb into bed with my headphones and listen to the books on repeat for hours. I worried that David would pull a Jon Stewart and start chastising white people for not #doingthework. I was delighted to see that David is still David. This episode kept my soul warm in a 40F bike ride. After I got home, I downloaded his latest book.
Just working my way through the podcast and it is great. I have never heard of him but just requested his latest book.
I am at the point in the podcast where is says he is coming out ‘straight’ because the label never changes. I am sorry to disappoint him but he can also be called cisgender.
This guy is hilarious. I loved the Oberlin address where he suggested to the graduates to have only one thing to be offended by so you have less in common with the Taliban
Thanks for this podcast and making me aware of him
I love David Sedaris's writings and books on Audible and I especially loved this podcast. Brutally honest and so politically "incorrect." Well done and very enjoyable. Thanks.
What a gift having two of my favorite people "sit and chat". It was a treat listening, thank you. I immediately went out and bought his new book.
Excellent!
Just bought my first Sedaris audiobook! Love it!
That was a fantastic and fun listen! Hope you can do that every year with him
